Oscar Winners As They're Announced

I will be doing a full fun recap but during the show mostly just minor notes. I'm gonna enjoy the show this year!

OPENING MONOLOGUE
Very bold for Ellen DeGeneres actually!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Presented by: Anne Hathaway
winner: Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club

This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS.

ANIMATED "HERO" MONTAGE
Presented by Jim Carrey
"Light on Finding Nemo" according to Ellen Degeneres

PERFORMANCE
Presented by Kerry Washingon
Pharrell does "Happy" and gets Oscar nominees Lupita Nyong'o, LA STREEP (who remains seated but does a mean shimmy), and Amy Adams to dance with him.

COSTUME DESIGN
Presented by Naomi Watts and Samuel J Jackson
winner: Catharine Martin, The Great Gatsby
MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING
winner: Adruitha Lee & Robin Matthews for, Dallas Buyers Club

BEST PICTURE INTRO - PART ONE
Presented by Harrison Ford he uses the phrase "wild and exhilarating" and never before has an actor said that with as much subtextual 'not really' as this actor right here.  The movies in question: American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street

ANIMATED SHORT
Presented by Kim Novak and Matthew McConaughey
winner: Mr Hublot
ANIMATED FEATURE
winner: Frozen

TRIBUTE TO REAL HEROES  BY WAY OF BIOPICS
Presented by Sally Field

VISUAL EFFECTS
Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Emma Watson - get it? Their young people and visual f/x are like, for movies aimed at young people. We love young people. Young people watch the Oscars. They do
winner: Gravity

PERFORMANCE
Presented by Zac Efron who has trouble reading
Karen O sings "Moon Song"

LIVE ACTION SHORT
Presented by Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis. I guess this means Goldie Hawn is NOT presenting with Kate. Love it. Hope she gets Best Picture! (I know I know. Actresses aren't allowed but I can dream)
winner: Anders Walter & Kim Magnusson, Helium
DOCUMENTARY SHORT:
winner: Nicholas Reed & Malcolm Clarke, The Lady in No. 6

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
Presented by Bradley Cooper
winner: 20 Feet From Stardom - Darlene Love sings because she's happy "his eye is on the sparrow" standing ovation!

HONORARY WINNERS
Presented by Kevin Spacey
winners: Steve Martin, Angela Lansbury, Piero Totsi and Angelina Jolie.
A pox on Oscar's house that they don't include these things in the live broadcast in a more meaningful way. Fuck "Heroes Theme". Give me Steve & Lansbury!

FOREIGN FILM
Presented by Viola Davis AND Ewan McGregor which means Oscar is flirting with me
winner: The Great Beauty, from Italy

BEST PICTURE INTRODUCTION
Presented by Tyler Perry
Nebraska, Her, (cut to: Amy Adams just checking her phone), and Gravity

PERFORMANCE
Presented by Brad Pitt
U2 "Long Walk to Freedom" which gets a standing ovation from the crowd there and from my apartment if you standing to walk to the bathroom breaks

Ellen gets a group photo. This photo will be parsed for pop cultural meaning for as long as we all shall live

SOUND MIXING & SOUND EDITING
Presented by Charlize Theron and... I can only think of Charlize when Charlize is around
winner: Gravity both times

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Presented by Christopher Waltz
winner: Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave

POINTS OF BUSINESS
Academy president Cheryl Boone-Isaacs speaks

CINEMATOGRAPHY
Presented by Amy Adam and Bill Murray
winner: Emmanuel Lubezki

EDITING
presented by Anna Kendrick and Gabby Sidibe
winner: Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger, Gravity

WIZARD OF OZ TRIBUTE
Presented by Whoopi Goldberg
Liza and Lorna stand up and that's it? Camera cuts away to people clapping. No, no. I wanted Liza!
P!nk performs "Over the Rainbow" . Gorgeously I might add.

Did I miss it?

PRODUCTION DESIGN
Presented by Jennifer Garner and Benedict Cumberbatch
winner: Great Gatsby

HEROES TRIBUTE
Presented by Chris Evans to show us a montage of hero movies that is basically like the fanboy portion of the evening because all the people who live for those movies are certain to be tuning in between Production Design and In Memoriam!

IN MEMORIAM & PERFORMANCE
Presented by Glenn Close who probably bristles every time she's announced as merely a "nominee"
Bette Midler sings "Wind Beneath My Wings" in front of a backdrop of Ghosts of Oscars Past

BEST PICTURE INTRODUCTION
Presented by Goldie Hawn
Philomena, and 12 Years a Slave

PERFORMANCE
Somehow John Travolta got the job of introducing the new Queer anthem "Let it Go" performed by Idina Menzel. Oops. Also he butchers her name. Double Oops. And then Idina has trouble on the high note. Triple Oops. Pretty if simple ice castle set though

ORIGINAL SCORE
Presented by Jamie Foxx and Jessica Beal
winner: Steven Price, Gravity
ORIGINAL SONG
winner: "Let it Go" from Frozen

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Presented by Robert DeNiro and Penelope Cruz
winner: John Ridley for 12 Years a Slave
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
winner:  Spike Jonze, Her

In retrospect it was very silly of me not to predict him. He's involved with like every movie and so so so talented.

BEST DIRECTOR
Presented by Angelina Jolie and Sidney Poitier. And fascinating that Angelina Jolie -- who could've starred in Gravity -- was the one to hand it to him.
winner:Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity

BEST ACTRESS
Presented by Daniel Day Lewis.
winner Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine

BEST ACTOR
Presented by Jennifer Lawrence
winner: Matthew McConaughey thanks God, thanks his father who has passed, thanks himself. This is bizarre. He thanks himself for being his own hero.

BEST PICTURE
Presented by Will Smith
winner: 12 Years a Slave

THAT'S IT! Much more in the next 48 hours as we dig a little deeper. I scored 19/24 in my predictions which is not great because I missed a couple of obvious things (I had a hunch that there'd be an upset in foreign film - wrong! and I overthought Editing & Costumes) since I thought it would be a volatile night. I was wrong but I had a blast watching. I hope you had a great night, too.

His speech seems so rehearsed and false! I hate that king of speeches!!

Liza was not pleased with Ellen calling her a man! Lmao

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Love that CM is such an everyday Aussie girl!! Love that I still have a programme from a production of The Cherry Orchard with "Cathy Martin- wardrobe". I was a Theatre Studies student at the University of NSW while CM was a second year NIDA student. UNSW shared facilities with NIDA. I didn't know her but when I found the programme a couple of years ago in my copy of Chekhov's Plays, I was thrilled to see her name. It's kind of exciting to think I was a witness to the genesis of a multiple Oscar winner.

the show is starting to need emma thompson.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

I'm with marcelo! Let's get Emma Thompson in there to brighten up the show! Preferably a drunk Emma Thompson - she's the best (idea: get her to host the Globes. She'd get gradually drunker over the evening. It'd be glorious).

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRob

ellen and lots of presenters sound a little nervous.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Lupita is sitting on the third row. J-Law on the first. Guess who'll win?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Amanda, they had Catherine Martin way in the back of the nominees (and on far house right, too) when everyone knew she was winning for Costumes. They might be banking on JLaw tripping into the aisle with that placement.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRobert G

So happy for 20 feet from stardom...but i bet if the rules weren't changed and only the doc branch could vote it wouldn't have won

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdave

The Oscars know its all lupita va jlaw - i dont remember the last tine they took so long to present best supporting actress...isnt it one of the first few awards each year or is it my impatience?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRizz

Rizz...Best Supporting ACTOR normally comes up as one of the first awards, but Best Supporting ACTRESS usually comes up late in the broadcast, if I remember correctly.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill_the_Bear

lol ellen with the group shot!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

sometimes it started with supporting actress remember Penelope Cruz
usually Oscars starts with one of supportings

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteramir

I remember when Jennifer Connelly and Rachel Weizs won BSActress was the first to be handed on those year's cerimonies.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

I actually recall BSActress as one of the first awards many years...

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Originally I wanted to say they start with one supporting and leave the other til later, the formal being the one least suspense among the two... then I remember last year when they put Anne Hathaway's Supporting Actress way later than Best Supporting Actor.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

Yay Lupita! I'm crying...

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

Oh my word. So much crazy s--t is going down. I need a TFE podcast right now.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

@Joanne
I'm crying for the same reason

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIvonne

So glad Lupita won. It would have hurt JLaw more than help if she had gotten it. Hopefully it will do more for Lupita than it did for Mira Sorvino or Mercedes Ruehl.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjoel6

Bill Murray looks like the Wizard of Oz!!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill_the_Bear

Love how J Law got stuck into that pizza!! She was still chewing when they cut to a shot of her a minute later.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

I love Whoopi but what the hell is she wearing?!?!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjoel6

The pizza moment is already a classic Oscar moment

Brad Pitt: Pass those plates
Ellen: Who wants pizza? You said cheese?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

Is itjust me or are the acting clip choices phenomenal this year!!!!! The supporting actress clips they picked made me want a five way tie!!!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdave

They didn't even have Judy's kids on stage! Liza's an Oscar winner for Christ's sakes!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjoel6

Um, Christopher Reeve?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

CM's repeated the double! Maybe my other 2 Oscar wishes will come true...

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

Come on, where's the biggest upset of the night?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterchand

Eduardo Coutinho!!! Long live the genius!!!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Has Meryl Streep taken on the Jack Nicholson "life of the party" role at the Oscars??

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

amanda - YES! (but such a tragic circumstance, his death)

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Well they screwed the In Memoriam up!

Sorry PSH was a great actor but sordidness of his death aside Shirley Temple deserved that final spot. She was a star starting in 1934 and has been one ever since. Love Bette but her song was totally unnecessary and to add insult to injury once she was done they put all the people who had passed up behind her and only focused on her. It's not about her!!!!!!!!

At least they didn't have her sing over the them like they have the last couple of years but she shouldn't have been there at all.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjoel6

Nat I am sure she does - but to add insult to injury the announcer referred to her as multiple nominee, can't the academy do their research. "6 time nominee" thank you very much.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermatt

Gravity best score mmmmm....on a bit of a roll aren't we!?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

Yay Let it Go!! Didn't think it was going to do it. Best speech ever as well. I'm on a roll with my favs as well.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

This is easily the most incredibly entertaining, hilarious, and bizarre Oscars in recent memory.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStephen

Does everyone get a standing ovation tonight? I think that if the pizza guy comes back he'll get one too.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

John Travolta is an embarrassment to gays & straights everywhere.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMark

and I'm crying again

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIvonne

Lupita Nyong'o is the true MVP of the night. Sexy as hell dancing with Pharell. Humble as hell during her acceptance speech. Part of the Internet breaking selfie. Ellen is using her Chapstick. Please let her be around forever.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJS

adele dazeem didn't sound very good.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Gravity just keeps rolling along. Just want to say that I enjoyed Gravity but 12 Years a Slave is more worthy. I'll be disappointed to see anything else take out best pic.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

Gravity and American Hustle, one of the biggest winners and one of the biggest losers in Oscar history.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

Yay Cate! Of course it's no surprise. Great speech. So many Aussie Oscars tonight!!

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

what was that with j-law? did anyone understand it?

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Listening to McConaughey, for the first time tonight, I wish the orchestra would play somebody off.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill_the_Bear

I kinda liked matthew's weird speech.

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

I never understand what the fuck Mconaugey is trying to say. Jeeze....

March 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMark

so did anyone NOT get 100% in their predictions?
