That's above my pay grade but if you see it, do tell me how magical it was. (Cheaper worse tickets go on sale and will surely sell out instantly) on Monday.

Oooh, I don't know how I missed this yesterday but Just Jared posted set pics from Suffragette the new Carey Mulligan/Meryl Streep political period piece. FWIW, because no site ever gives credit on these things when they post set pics, the costumes are by Jane Petrie, a relatively new Costume Designer whose previous credits include genre pictures like An American Haunting, Moon and 28 Days Later. But she's moving straight into prestige films. She's got Suffragette as well as the Stephen Frears Lance Armstrong biopic if that one stays on track.

Ester Bloom, who wrote a couple of pieces here at TFE a few years ago, has a terrific essay up on Flavorwire about the sexuality (or lack thereof) in Wes Anderson's films and how Grand Budapest Hotel is and isn't a significant departure in this regard. Consider this bit.
Anderson is famous for fawning over his symmetrical landscapes the way other directors dote on their female stars; if he is turned on by anything, it seems to be dioramas. The people who fall in love in Anderson’s universes are either actual children, like the awkward tweens of Moonrise Kingdom, or metaphorical ones, like the emotionally stunted Herman Blume of Rushmore and Richie Tenenbaum of The Royal Tenenbaums. And all hearts break in the end.

That Film School Rejects article is spot on and wonderful, particularly since EVERYONE online finds themselves judging/hating a film before they see it.
I meant to add, at one point or another there.
TMNT Trailer: The original comics, the 2003 animated series and that animated show's tie-in were pretty da...no, I just can't. They've NEVER looked good in live-action and this doesn't change that and they certainly DO NOT not look good enough to justify how almost entirely serious they're trying to play it here. If this could be a bizarre hard R blood crazy dark comic throwback to the original comics (which were a parody of Frank Miller's Daredevil, even down to the accident that created Daredevil implicitly creating The Turtles in the original comics), I'd be okay with a dark angle in live-action. But this looks like it's taking itself very seriously, even as it looks bloodless and soullessly CGI'd within an inch of it's life. Plus, what's Megan Fox even DOING in a Michael Bay tied film? (Produced by Platinum Dunes.) If you're going to go so far as to call a director Hitler, you STICK TO YOUR GUNS. Going back to that crew like a stray cat just because they're the only people who'll take you in is the exact opposite of that.
I finally watched Enough Said last night, and it blew me away. Both Julia and James gave gentle and touching performances--and with such palpable empathy. They created characters that were people I'd love to know. Once again it hit me he was gone. Such a great loss.
A pity that ranco and Lohan didn't make it, they could've have been as explosive as Taylor-Burton, if they were as big stars as them, and if Franco was Taylor and Lohan, Burton.
I love living in Los Angeles. But I know you in New York with access to an abundance of live theater worships film and so with great confusion from my end at your utter unwillingness to fight for the cheap seats to see Isabelle Huppert act in person? I question your actress-sexuality. Maybe you like the patriarchal order as it stands and that foreign language actors really aren't your thing. I will shame you into fighting for the cheap seats even if you lose out on them. Fight!

/3rtful -- i didn't say i wouldn't try to get cheap seats. but there are surely a tiny amount since the pre-sale is nearly sold out and i am WAY too poor for $175 seats. I don't pay that for anything that's over in 2 hours. I also stopped going to concerts because they climb up in price each year and it's like "nope. i like to be able to pay rent"
Nathaniel R -- You don't save? You should save for opportunities like Madonna concerts and Isabelle Huppert acting in person within geographical reach. I'm burning with jealousy at the New York residents who'll be there to bask in seeing her work outside of a cameraman's lens. Outside of an editor and auteur making the decisions about what takes I experience of her performance. I think so much of her and it's strange that I was indifferent to her based on the worst possible introduction to Isabelle Huppert -- I Heart Huckabees. A complete waste of her genius but her foreign language work makes me feel like I'm fluent in everything but English.
I still think about there e/said characters and wonder what they're up 2.
I saw The Maids when it was on in Sydney. I think people are going to get a shock when they see it, it's not your average trip to the theatre. Characters are all prickly, surreal and the action is similar. Still it's all handled brilliantly -for the most part. Huppert is fantastic. She received mixed reviews when she was in Aus, but I think she nailed the tricky tone of the production. Debecki stomps through the play brilliantly - it's not an easy thing to claim status on stage when you're against Blanchett and Huppert, but she does and you never question the other subservience as a result. Blanchett is predictably good, but it's not "her"production. Her other recent theatre work in Gross Un Klein or Uncle Vanya is superior.
Gay AND a witch??? I must have magic powers. Maybe I should let them go during a long work meeting this week.

I also saw it in Sydney, it's marvelous - and Debicki absolutely holds her own on that stage. And the cheap seats will be fine.
