Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" List
The full list has been revealed with these 27 people in the "arts" section: Marina Abramovic, Amy Adams, Diane Paulus, Matthew McConaughey, John Green, Beyoncé, Sheika al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Donna Tartt, Jordan Peele, Seth Meyers, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robin Wright, Binyavanga Wainaina, Miley Cyrus, Robert Redford, Jenji Kohan, Yao Chen, Arundhati Roy, Megan Ellison, Carrie Underwood, Kerry Washington, and Keegan Michael Key. Weird eclectic lineup. (This last season renewed my love for Amy Adams but I've never thought of her as "influential" per se.) Interestingly enough -- at least for The Film Experience's purposes -- five of the slots are taken up by recent hotly-contested Oscar contests. Best Directors Steve McQueen & Alfonso Cuarón are both accounted for as are the leading "Original Song" nominees Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (from Frozen) and "Happy" Pharrell Williams. All of the celebrities get tributary write-ups by other starry folk: Oscar whisperer Harvey Weinstein honors film legend Redford; James Franco writes about Abramovic (OF COURSE HE DOES); Naomi Watts talks up Robin Wright who had her best year; and Jessica Chastain has the good sense to worship Megan Ellison...
The Italian Renaissance flourished because patrons like the Medici family sponsored artists and valued their craft. Today the film industry has been blessed with a modern version of the Medicis — a single benefactor who has the utmost respect for cinema: Megan Ellison.
-Jessica Chastain
The magazine has multiple covers as most event issues do these days. Who would you have placed on the list that didn't make it?

The fact that people like Amy Adams and Benedict Cumberbatch make the list over people like Laverne Cox or Lupita Nyong'o, who, ya know, are actually influential, makes me question this list pretty hard.
I know Jessica meant well, but those Medicis were some dirty dealers...assassination attempts, corrupt consolidation of power, you know, cloak and dagger stuff. I suspect the Ellisons aren't quite up to all that.
I don't necessarily get what they mean with 'influential', so I don't have an opinion on this... good for the people who made it on the list I guess?
on the "grease" topic, it's being done by fox, which airs "american idol", which is where katharine mcphee came from... I'm already dreading this.
Amy Adams' publicist should win Most Influential next year.
I like "Georgy Girl" too. What a great cast.
I've seen 18 movies with Alan Bates. My favorites are the ones he did with Julie Christie: Return of the Soldier; The Go-Between; Far From the Madding Crowd.
I also like Nothing But The Best, The Shout, Women in Love, King of Hearts.
I still haven't seen The Fixer.
Not commenting on any of the links here, but do want to share a link. There's an interesting piece at the Press Play blog called The Brando Standard: How Modern Actors Struggle Productively With Marlon Brando's Legacy
I know Ellison has a crush on Chastain so obviously Chastain is using it to her advantage. I'm just sick of her kiss ass to Ellison. I mean she looks like the odd man out with Ellison and Ellison's girlfriend at the Golden Globes party.
@Hana
Chastain sees Ellison the same way Tarantino sees Weinstein. As an ally. And both persons are influential in how they utilize their power. Quentin is still here and Chastain wants to be around for the long haul she'll need someone major in her corner. And that person is Megan Ellison.
Georgy Girl is a great time capsule. I miss Lynn Redgrave.
I blushed reading Jessica's eulogy. She can't be that naive.
Ugh. They can't realistically expect more than $330 million in ticket sales due to half the audience HATING the movie. Maybe, if they're unusually lucky, they MIGHT get $400 million. So, yeah, even their best case scenario is terrible for them. Some may be wondering: What's so "terrible" about a $400 million best case scenario? Well, there's likely going to be a significant budget uptick (based on the cost of Man of Steel ($225 million), a $270 million price-tag would not surprise me and $300 mil should not be considered outside the realm of possibility). If they hit best case scenario with lowest budget, they lose $70 million. If they hit reasonable scenario with lowest budget or best case scenario with highest budget, they lose around $100 million. If they hit reasonable scenario with highest conceivable budget, they've just tossed $130 million into the ground. Even if this is more commercially successful than Green Lantern, the generally love or hate critical reaction probably should have tanked this as a prospective franchise.
I'm not sure I appreciate Chastain's social media PDAs for EVERYTHING! People used to rag on Anne Hathaway for her earnestness; Chastain (who I like as an actor) takes her loves to a whole new, viral level. TMOS (too much over-sharing) for me, but perhaps I'm old-fashioned.
Re TIME's most influential--isn't that list based on some sort of public vote, like the People's Choice Awards?
