Curio: Movie Posters Most Minimal
Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 10:12AM Alexa here. These were making the rounds last week, but because I love anything involving fancy paper I had to share. Perhaps bringing the minimalist movie poster trend to its logical conclusion, Spanish design firm atipo has created a movie poster collection entitled “Papers For Characters” that uses only papers of various colors, textures and weights. The paper is manipulated by hand in various ways - burned, cut, sewn, torn - to demonstrate an essential motif of each film.
As the A.V. Club pointed out, they also make a fun guessing game. (You can find captions here if you don't want to play.) I'm sharing some and I've numbered them for reference...

I admit I've only recognized the first. I mean it's overly obvious.
The poster's idea is simply great.
wow. these are difficult. i haven't gotten one of them yet.
My guesses would be...
1. Jaws
3. Bonnie & Clyde!
4. um...Gone With the Wind?
6. Alien
8. Jurassic Park? Or Edward Scissorhands?
9. Rear Window

@Sonja I suppose it's really obvious but, to be honest, my first thought was the Cookie Monster! ha!
My favorite is number 9, both because it's my favorite movie and because it's the only one I guessed right (after checking the captions).
Oh wait. i figured out no 6. FINALLY GOT ONE. gotta be Alien.
5.- The tree of life.
7.- Dracula.
10.- The cube.
It's possible???

My guesses:
1. Jaws (obtuse, but kind of easy)
2. Shadows (I know everyone says Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, but if it were that, I'd think the white sheet of paper would be bigger.)
3. A Man Escaped (Why not Bonnie and Clyde? THE BLUE STRIPES. That likely indicates prison, which indicates the main character went to prison, so it CAN'T be Bonnie and Clyde, who died without having stepped in foot inside a jail. Thus...A Man Escaped.)
4. An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn (It's just the first thing that came to mind.)
5. Office Space ("Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam!?")
6. Alien (This is the easiest guess. How anyone can't get this is beyond me.)
7. Dracula (Also easy.)
8. Jurassic Park (The lines are curved so it can't be Edward Scissorhands or A Nightmare on Elm Street. So, yeah.)
9. Rear Window (Almost went with The Usual Suspects, but then I noticed the opening slit and went, oh. Clever.)
10. The Cube.
they're all great but #5 is freakin' genius

volvagia -- #7 i actually couldn't figure out and now knowing the answer i just feel dumb. haha. but it's brilliant. but also on your guesses for #3 & #8 you're totally overthinking it.
garbo - you got one of them. the middle one.
Burn after reading would be too obvious.
And there's only two famous "bridge"movies in the world, and Madison County guess must be influenced by the recent Tonys.
And I love the Psycho one.
i dont think i would have ever gotten 4 or 5 without looking them up but at least 5 is amazing once you know.
#4 I'm guessing Farenheit 451?
I only guessed 1, 2, 9 so in that sense those are my favorites (symbolism are useless if people cannot grasp them). But I do admit that 5 is rather brilliant, and 6 obviously works very well. I actually prefer my guess for 8 than the actual answer. I mean, overthinking or not, that does look like a raptor's hand.
Ah, those really inspire me. I'd have an idea of another minimal poster...
My first thought with #2 was Jungle Fever.
