Thoughts I Had... While Looking at the Foxcatcher Tease Poster

Presented without censorship in the order they came...

Mmm-mmm-mmm. Channning Tatum

Sorry, top billed Steve Carell but you just aren't as bankable. Did you throw a grenade while plunging toward the ocean shouting "something cool" this summer? Nope!

Although maybe there are two more of these posters and they just released this one first?

Thank God this is not the official poster because zzz

Little known fact. That flag is Daniel Day-Lewis's shawl from Gangs of New York. It hasn't been washed since 1862 for authenticity's sake. Except that one time Madonna and Rupert Everett used it whilst cavorting.

Chan can cavort with the best of 'em. He's got all the movies. STEP UP. I just saw Joe Manganiello's La Bare and we need to talk about it soon. One of the dancers calls himself Channing because why wouldn't you?

Before she dies I hope Carol Channing co-stars with Channing Tatum. In a musical.

Heh. The credits are like a treasure trail, starting with Chan's pecs. Look!

Foxcatcher is a treasure. Or so we keep hearing.

Wait, did they also put prosthetics on Chan's nose, not just Carell's? Everyone wants the Oscar.

"I'm making my best pouty tough-boy face because I'm a real actor and should be taken seriously!"

That's some serious 90s cartoon Ra's al Ghul eye makeup.

Sorry, never get his appeal nor his "acting" (unlike Guy Lodge)...maybe "Foxcatcher" will change my mind...

What a boring poster. Movie looks great, though.

If Steve wins the Oscar I hope they break the rules and have Denzel Washington announce it and say "by a nose" again.

...and/or Stockard Channing, Nat. Wouldn't it be great to see *her* back in a movie musical?

I really do not understand the appeal of Tatum. I think he is a mediocre
actor at best and not all that good looking (nice pecs though)

I'm also one of those who just doesn't "get" Tatum, and who doesn't find him sexy at all. Mark Ruffalo, on the other hand...! When will we get a poster of him in a singlet?

June 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill_the_Bear

Mr Channing in a wrestling singlet will sell more tickets...Mr Channing is not an actor he is a movie star- and he has made Hollywood enough money to get at least an Oscar nod.

Oh yes, baby, ignore everyone and come straight towards me...

Steve Carrel isn't going to sell tickets? Was this a joke?

June 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterScott

Yes! I would love to see a musical with Carol Channing, Stockard Channing, and Channing Tatum.

Foxcatcher though, puzzles me. I can't understand the enthusiasm for it, as it has absolutely no appeal for me. I doubt that it will attract a wide audience or make much money. I see it as the Frost/Nixon or the Osage County of its year.

I'd be surprised and disappointed if this was the final poster. Seems more like those "character" posters they put out.

Tatum has a natural approach to acting...he delivers his lines in ways a normal person would actually talk- which fits perfectly for most of his characters which tend to have a combination of a distinct vulnerability and underlying insecurities. Huge screen presence.

I rather like the Cannes poster.

Trying to erase memories of the trailer, the Tatum poster says nothing about the film while the Cannes poster at least hints at a story. The Tatum poster is designed to appeal to his fan base, which I seriously doubt will appreciate Foxcatcher which makes me think the producers don't have a lot of faith in it box office wise, which I agree with. I think it will be lucky to find a place.

I cant' see Carell getting an Oscar. If they wouldn't give him an Emmy for Office, they won't give him the big prize.

I generally find Tatum inoffensive and liked Magic Mike. I also don't get a sense of over blown ego from him and I think he is pretty realistic about his abilities. I'll change that opinion when he announces a remake of Hamlet.

Henry: That's one of the reasons I have big doubts about Foxcatcher's chances of even being a nomination leader, actually. The other two are: 1. Everyone has to falter sometime, otherwise questions of group stagnation (see also: Stephen Daldry likely having a snowball's chance in the Sahara this time due to blind nomination of ExLoud) come into play and 2. Isn't it time for an Oscar line-up that's a bit more "pop fun" and, tonally, less prestige oriented? (2009 had Avatar, District 9, Inglourious, Up and, slightly stretching, Up in the Air.) Most years since the expansion have featured at least 1 (once 2) that get close to that kind of pop-fun (2010: Toy Story 3, 2011: The Help, 2012: Django Unchained, 2013: The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle), but I think it's time for, tonally, another shockingly atypical year and that's a big part of the reason (the other big part being that it's pretty much TIME for Marvel Studios to be on the ballot) that, unless it critically flops, I'm going to be bullish on the "a-holes" of Guardians of the Galaxy scraping a slot.
