Red Carpet Lineup: 2015 Governors Awards

Jose here. Judging from her gleeful expression, it seems Dame Helen Mirren got the news I chose her as the absolute best dressed at the 2015 Governors Awards. On a night when Hollywood celebrated some of its most beloved legends, most people seem to have taken the informal/cocktail route and perhaps avoided stealing the spotlight from Gena Rowlands, Debbie Reynolds and Spike Lee. Not Dame Mirren though. Unsurprisingly, she went for yet another Dolce & Gabbana look, but can you blame her when they make her look so divine?

Jane Fonda broke her flawless streak in an unflattering Saint Laurent tux and pants...but fear not, Carey Mulligan made up for this by looking divine in a meringue-hued Jonathan Saunders gown. Ever since she started working with stylist Petra Flannery it's been fashiongasm after fashiongasm with Ms. Mulligan! Similarly, Saoirse Ronan, whose style keeps improving, was radiant in a bold Emilia Wickstead design. The lovely Amy Schumer took a page from new BFF J.Law's stylebook by going for a simple Calvin Klein column reminiscent of her 2011 Oscar dress.
If you know me, you know of my devotion to Rooney Mara, and how even though I am OK with her monochromatic looks, I keep suggesting she should try color. I'm glad we're on the same page this time, but I'm slightly disappointed by her Alexander McQueen choice, which seems to be wearing her, not the other way around. It's as if she was going for one of her usual looks until someone decided to put a military jacket on her (for the record, it's a single piece though). But hey, she tried red! Rachel Weisz looked pretty in Oscar de la Renta, while couture queen Cate Blanchett went the ultra informal way by wearing pants to the event. Her Armani Prive look will prove controversial to those always expecting red carpet DUHRAAAMA! from the Oscar winner, but as she keeps proving time after time, there's a time and place for everything. She was there to introduce Gena Rowlands' award, not to steal the spotlight. And for that alone I say, yay Cate!

Mirren wins but Mulligan is a close second - it may even be a tie! Carey has really stepped her game up recently, she's looking better than ever.
She's no Emma Stone, but I have to give credit where credit is due to Ms. Mulligan. (Didn't she just have a baby, by the way?)
Fonda is fierce, Weisz is snoozeville, Schumer's dress is not at all flattering (or is it just the angle?), and Blanchett looks like she's wearing some hideous, haute couture Birkenstock. Anywho, can Mara smile ONCE in her LIFE?
Oh, and Mirren is divine. (Did you see her twirling that dress? It was fifty shades of fabulous.) Who knew a bawdy, Septuagenarian Dame and two traditional family-loving, gay ex-lovers would go so well together, fashion-wise?
I'm glad Rooney is being a little less boring for once but yikes. I know that's how it was presented on the runway but it still hurts my eyes. At least it's not a white or black Givenchy. Maybe one of the classier Zuhair Murads or (God forbid) Dior would liven things up for her.
I'm going with Rachel for the win because I imagine that dress in beautiful in motion.
(plus, her and Daniel are beyond adorable when they are out together in public.)
After looking at a few more shots of Weisz in that gown, she gets my vote for Best Dressed. But I wish she had gone for an up-do instead of the messy mane.
Jane Fonda is giving me face but I don't like Aunt Edith look on her. Rooney Mara, no! Meryl was actuslly stunning , but she does not do red carpet as a Queen. Cate Blanchett, Stiff. Helen Mirren sweet. Thank God no Jessica Chastain!
Carey Mulligan is just glowing nowadays, isn't she? She looks absolutely stunning.
It's a shame that the wonderful Debbie Reynolds couldn't make the awards. Here's hoping the producers will allow her and Spike and Gena a moment on the stage to receive a standing ovation.
If it was up to me I'd have all three of them present Best Picture. Much better than another Spielberg, Nicholson or Eastwood.

Was Dame Mirren getting married? Please! Rooney's gown is horrendous. Designed by a drunk or a mentally challenged gypsy.

Fonda goes so overboard trying to show she's still got it. We get it, you're sexy, but you're in danger of turning into the 2015 version of Mrs. Roper if you keep pushing it. Mirren proves that class can be sexy, too.
Rooney, call Kate Winslet and burn that dress together!
Carey Mulligan gets the most improved award, Dame Helen is beautiful & classy, (as always) and Rachel Weisz is looking very good.
and Rooney showed up with her usual cold, bland, sad expression. You may like her but Mara never lights up a room or a red carpet because she is just a sad robot.
Is there a more unpleasant young Actress right now then Miss Mara? And don't even get me started on that dress or whatever it is suppose to be anyway...
