Moore and Haynes, Reunited At Last

Manuel here. In news that seem tailor-made for The Film Experience readership in general and Nathaniel in particular, Julianne Moore* is teaming up once again with her Far From Heaven director Todd Haynes.

(Pause as we all gay gasp).

As you'll remember, Nat was already ecstatic about this project back when it was announced earlier in the year and while our host has been having a ball lately — in Los Angeles he overheard some Oscar whisperings, hob-knobbed with Adepero Oduye (!), Gena Rowlands (!!), Ian McKellen and The Lovely Laura Linney (!!!), and caught various films, you have to be sure that the news will surely knock him out all over again with glee.

Wonderstruck, for those of you who managed to regain consciousness after hearing "Moore" and "Haynes" in the same sentence, is Brian Selzknick's 2011 picture book/novel hybrid that follows two interconnected narratives, one set in 1927 and one in 1977 (in true Selznick fashion, one is told purely in pictures, the other purely in words) and involves a little girl obsessed with an actress and a boy intent on finding some family history that remains a mystery to him. For those of us who have already seen Carol, there is no doubt that Haynes is at the top of his game, so the fact that his next directorial project is coming together so quickly (no more waiting 8 years for another film!) is a welcome development. That it includes Moore? Well, that's just the juiciest cherry on top.

*This is your weekly reminder that Julianne Moore won an Oscar.

I heard about this yesterday briefly before boarding the plane back to NYC and from people predicting my reaction. haha.

yes, i am thrilled enough to shout YAAAAS and do flamingo mating dances and possibly to stop breathing. I normallly have a "do not resuscitate" order but i need to see this movie so DO.

What a happy day! Fantastic that we don't have to wait 7 years for another Haynes!

Oh.

My.

Guh-

I was already a bit overwhelmed by Terrence Davies teaming with Cynthia Nixon and Jennifer Ehle, but this - this is just too much now

I know Moore and Blanchett are his muses, but is anyone else interested in what he could do with other actresses? Kidman and Todd Haynes is a collaboration which should have happened during her 00's prime. I hope Todd is winning to build a vehicle around Chastain. Jess is the only contemporary starlet who makes sense with his sensibilities.

I really want him to cast Glenn Close in a leading or supporting role! She is magnificent!

a) Brian Selnick also wrote the book "Hugo."

b) Now all we need is Todd Haynes to team up with Tilda Swinton and see if Nick makes it.

OK, so, Haynes has this in the works, along with the Peggy Lee biopic, the Oliver! remake and that (Act of God is it called?) polical drama, or something like that, with Christian Bale(?). What's happening? And which of those will we see first? To be honest, I'm not extremely eager to see him with Moore again. Not with Reese, either. As was mentioned, Kidman or Chastain would be a great match for him. And I would *love* to see him work with Cotillard.

Sounds like a Supp role for Moore, no? And with a casting announcement maybe it means it's almost ready to start.

Can he just do whatever the ~fuck~ he wants, pretty please? A director this talented should be making movies EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. or two years. Megan Ellison, where r u?

Tilda, Marion, HBC, Frances, Holly, ScarJo, Chastain, Léa, Emma, Bassett, Fonda, Charlize, Dench, Mirren, Penelope, Rinko, Keira, Vera, Sissy, NICOLE should already have him on their résumés by now!
