Comics Alliance forget what we said earlier about Nicole Kidman co-starring in Wonder Woman. Apparently they coudln't work out schedules. The'll presumably be looking for another iconic star in Kidman's age range for the Queen of the Amazons

THR the Women Film Critics Circle goes all in for Suffragette with 7 (!!!) awards. This is a group I'd love to sing praises to except so often their ideas about gender seem reductive / surface level. I like Suffragette just fine but in no way does its topic (women's voting rights) make it a better film about women than say Carol or Brooklyn or even less high profile pictures like Grandma or I'll See You In My Dreams or Mustang you know? They also say super strange things like this:

The Invisible Woman Award (performance by a woman whose exceptional impact on the film dramatically, socially or historically, has been ignored): Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl

How, exactly, has a performance with that much Oscar buzz from a new star the media is fawning all over having a wildly successful ubiquitous breakout year count as "invisible"?

Vogue a grown Star Wars fan remembers her adolescent obsession with the series and debates whether or not to go to the new film

Movie City News the 5 things David Poland hated about Episode 7 (SPOILERIFFIC obviously). Agree completely on #1 (oy!) and sort of on #2 and #3. Don't understand #4 or especially #5 as I loved the Darth Vader obsession -- a great dark mirror to our own Star Wars fixations only embedded organically into the actual narrative.
The Incredible Suit 'froths at the cock' (sorry) for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Funny review

'The'll presumably be looking for another iconic star in Kidman's age range for the Queen of the Amazons' - I m guessing Uma Thurman is in the running :)

Wasn't it announced that Robin Wright was cast in the movie? Presumably in the Kidman role?

Also, is the invisible award bringing attention to the character she played being ignored throughout history in favour of Lili? The painter herself is the invisible one until now rather than Alicia Vikander I thought?

Yikes, what's happening if a Gondry film (Microbe & Gasoline) can't find a distributor?

Morganisaqt -- robin wright is in the movie yes but according to this article she was cast before Kidman so it must be another role.

LOL, re: the WFC's 'Invisible Woman Award.' Since it's for a "performance by a woman whose exceptional impact on the film dramatically, socially or historically, has been ignored" (as opposed to a performance *of* a woman whose exceptional impact...), why not just give the award to Carey Mulligan who has been largely ignored by awards bodies, the general public *and* history? That would make much more sense than Alicia "Jude Law, circa 2004" Vikander.

And I co-sign Rami's inkling about Uma Thurman. Is there any actress this side of Daryl Hannah, Geena Davis, or Sigourney Weaver that screams Amazonian queen? Let's start a Change.org petition to get her cast now.

Microbe and Gasoline got a brief release in London, and I got to see it. It's very good!

Of the undistributed films, I've seen Journey to the Shore (which I HATED-- it felt like a Japanese Hallmark Channel film) and Chevalier (which is an interesting film, but I kept thinking during it that I'd love to see an American remake with big-name stars playing against their masculinity).

Is the Women's Film Critic Circle the same group that give a rather odious "Most in Need of a New Agent" award and give it to someone like Nicole Kidman for THE PAPERBOY?

And yeah, so many far better movies by and/or about women. CAROL, BROOKLYN, MUSTANG, INSIDE OUT, CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA, just to name a few...

Madonna's "Rebel Heart" is SO GOOD!

Amen to everything you say about the Women Film Critics Circle

Best Documentary By or About Women: Amy

Ugh. What Happened, Miss Simone? is so superior to Amy, and it is actually directed by a great female filmmaker, Liz Garbus. I'm beginning to think film critics watch only 2 documentaries a year.
