Beauty Break: China Through the Looking Glass?
Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1:24PM Eeep. We haven't even mentioned the Met Gala which is like the Oscars of May for how many stars come out. Each year the Met Gala theme comes from the new event exhibit which this year is "China: Through the Looking Glass." It's tough to say what is Chinese inspired about many of the looks we saw a few nights ago but who cares about themes when you get THIS photo (shared by Jessica Chastain) of three of the best and most beautiful actresses on the planet. As I said on twitter...

The Oscary actresses were actually the least adventurous of the night.
More than a few gowns made it seem like there was an unofficial tribute to Bob Mackie going on...except Mackie made 'em better!

It's Emma Roberts. Her dress didn't look so radioactive in other pictures I've seen of her though.
I agree that Beyoncé and J.Lo looked ridiculously inappropriate for the theme of this event. In fact, that's my usual beef with (most) stars at the Met Gala: from the men (Clooney, NPH, etc.) to the women (Chastain, Washington, etc.), so few seem to care about actually emulating or giving homage to the Chinese theme in question! (SJP, on the other hand, always delivers, while Paltrow, for example, seemed to have missed the gala's memo a couple of years ago for punk theme, which Hathaway incidentally nailed.) Go full on or go home, people!
I love looking at all these gowns. But I really don't understand the half-naked thing. I agree with Bia. Compare this to the drama Rihanna brought!

I always think J Lo looks desperate. That look was started by Cher way back when. Bob Mackie created it and few have managed to make it work the way the former Ms. Bono did.
Damn. Chastain is smoking in that dress. Her screen persona is not really high on the sex appeal but she's definitely got it here.
