My heart races just thinking of her performance in "McCabe & Mrs. Miller." Has another actor ever been able to convey so much with just the sparkle of her eyes?
WOW! My favorite living actress in a picture I've never seen before and an amazing one at that!! Thank you!
Shampoo is my favorite performance of hers.
I love the moment when she won Best Actress Sag Award for "Away from Her". She simply rolled her eyes, grabbed her speech out of her purse, and got it over with. Her commentary on the DVD of "Away from Her" is priceless in it's droll humor, and the awareness of how a performance of a person inflicted with a disease can often lead to a "schtick".
Nick has a very insightful piece on Christie over at "Nick's Flick Picks".
Still beautiful after all of these years and was fucking sexy in Aftergow.
She's so talented at minimalist acting. It doesn't always work for her, but when it does....!!!!!
I'm not as familiar as I should be, though I love Don't Look Now. I remember watching McCabe & Mrs. Miller in a film class and not feeling much affection for it, but I've been anxious to revisit it for a few years now. She's always read so thoroughly contemporary to me that it's weird to imagine her in period pieces like Dr. Zhivago and Far From the Madding Crowd (two movies I need to see), but I'm guessing that appeal worked for the characters she played. Of her more recent output I've only seen Troy, her segment of New York I Love You, and Glorious 39...so I clearly need to beef up.
Darling. That is all.
Julie Christie should have four or five Oscars or something absurd by my last count.
any other actor have exactly one nomination in four different decades?
Diana Keaton
Julia Roberts
A force of nature on the screen. No other actress has combined mesmerizing beauty with a shattering sense of grounded reality. She is the standard.
Jon Voigt
Julie Christie is indeed amazing.
Geraldine Page had a single supporting actress nomination in each decade from the '50s to the '80s ( in addition to her four Best Actress nominations).
Oh Christie. The only other actress whose beauty is so ethereal is Jolie imo.
And her noms are not consecutive in decades, but Keaton's and Roberts' are.
My original onscreen girlfriend all because of that look she gave Tom Courtenay in Billy Liar. <3
My Dad, who absolutely never said anything like this before or since, said she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Hmm, got that right! :-)
Omar & Julie in Dr. Zhivago made fur hats, adultery, and ice castles look like the height of chic.
They just don't make 'em like her anymore, do they? She can star in Darling, Doctor Zhivago, be politically outspoken AND rock a homemade gold lamé dress while she runs up to the stage to collect her Oscar.
She is still beautiful 50 years after that stunning performance in Darling. What a beautiful woman.
