H8teful Eight vs Black Mass: Character Posters

Manuel here bringing you two sets of character posters that are sure to adorn plenty of dorms soon. White, red and gray is in, apparently, as the new posters for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film The H8teful Eight (am I doing th8t right?) and the Johnny Depp-starrer Black Mass show:

We probably knew these were coming for the Tarantino flick (whose trailer we discussed in all its gif-tastic glory), but I can’t be the only one surprised that we’ve got such stylish character posters for that Whitey Bulger flick. When discussing its trailer, we talked about whether this might be the film to bust Depp out of its rut or further bury him in prosthetically-enhanced performance purgatory. Jury is still out, though not for long as the film opens September 18th. We have to wait a bit longer for Tarantino's latest which is waiting until Christmas to be unwrapped.

So many male actors! Only Leigh and Johnson offer some much-needed actressing at the edges to both casts. Which set gets your vote?

And look, Jennifer Jason Lee shares her poster. But, hey, Bruce Dern gets one to himself. That'll get the crowds packing!

Between these two and that Michael Keaton catholic church movie, there are a lot of "lone woman" ensembles coming soon.

I'd say the "Black Mass" campaign is a smart one, as I had no idea any of those people were in the movie. People are going to remember "that Depp movie" first and foremost, so this feels like a warranted reminder.

The H8teful Eight posters are certainly much more aesthetically pleasing. Those Black Mass posters are giving me a migraine. And is it just me or are all of their heads bigger than what they're supposed to be in relation to their bodies?

I love that Jesse Plemons gets his own!!!

The Black Mass ensemble looks GREAT, but I have so much trouble with Depp here. His hair and makeup look so awful, I always cringe when I see him in the trailer. Everyone in the trailer/posters make me want to see it EXCEPT Depp. So torn!

Is Depp a real contender has anyone seen the film in full.

Honestly the first row of Black Mass has me going ehh (Depp and Edgerton I'm kind of over right now, Bacon has never really caught my interest, and while I like Cumberbatch you can see him everywhere these days-he's like Jeremy Renner but he also seems to make good movies).

The second row I'm universally-excited about: Corey Stoll is one of my current obsessions, I'm fascinated to see Dakota Johnson in a real movie (who has had some solid taste outside of her blockbuster so I'm curious what her "movie star" ends up looking like), and Plemons/Sarsgaard are generally exciting.

Since the first round is undoubtedly 2/3 of the movie, though, I'm going to need good reviews to buy a ticket to this thing.

"The Hateful 8" has a cleaner more eye catching look- I'm already bored with "Black Mass" since I saw the first trailer seriously do we need another gangster movie?!
