Red Carpet: 67th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Jose here with shocking news: Thanks to technology and the magic of television, the 67th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place in 1988. Or so it seemed based on the number of overtly sparkly, asymmetrical cocktail dresses the stars wore to the event. More fitting for a John Hughes-inspired prom than an awards show in the 21st century, several of the looks defied logic and made me wonder if in fact the show had a theme we weren't aware of?

more "fashion" after the jump...

Beverly Hills High 1988 Prom Court L-R Dobrev, Klum, Jones, Constance

First up we have Nina Dobrev in an uninspiring Mugler skirt and top. The Bulgarian actress made heads turn with her breathtaking natural beauty, but her outfit screams "mom's closet". One day Heidi Klum will wear something astonishing to the Emmys, yesterday was not the day, instead she went for a floral Versace complete with a corset top. Rashida Jones is never not lovely, but her too-playful Valentino minidress would've been a better choice for someone like Kiernan Shipka or Elle Fanning, and even they would've known better than to wear it to the Emmys. Last we have Sasha Alexander in Gabriela Cadena, with sheer panels, web patterns and the strangest asymmetrical cut skirt in recent memory, she made me think she'd break into "Anything for Him" from Kiss of the Spider Woman at some point.

L-R: Janney, Schaal, McPhee, Hough, Kaling

Lucky for us there is Allison Janney. Nominated for her 900th Emmy (she lost in her category to Margo Martindale, but might win another one at the main event on the 20th) she chose a delightful Leanne Marshall floral print dress and showed off her amazing arms. Kristen Schaal has never looked better than in this very Zac Posen-y dress by Matthew Christopher, and Katharine McPhee stunned in her beaded Naeem Khan. While I'm not one to endorse half sleeve dresses, Julianne Hough's Jenny Packham did the job well! Kudos to Mindy Kaling for promoting new fashion voices by wearing a creation by her show's costume designer, Salvador Perez who is also the president of the Costume Designers Guild. Also kudos for choosing that bold red, if you're thinking Lupita at the Globes and J.Law at the Oscars not only are you right, you're also probably going to be a fan of Mr. Perez's work in the future.

Speaking of the future...

After just one look at Pablo Schreiber's handsome mug, I'm now as pregnant as Shiri Appleby, pictured above with her fabulous unREAL co-star Constance Zimmer. You're all invited to the wedding. No 80s fashions allowed!

MINDY. She looks absolutely lovely. I always appreciate that she never shies away from colour.

To be honest, if I was skinny lady with a nice bod, i'd pretty much always be wearing Versace like Heidi. Versace can be so hit or miss but they can totally do sexy and fun when they're ready. I guess all the classy stuff ends up in the Atelier Versace section.

Pablo is not everyone's taste but he's totally mine.

Jose, I love you. I laughed so hard that I woke up the cat.

thank you for soothing the pain from the first collage with the beautiful second one.

Pablo is so handsome! I wouldn't have expected that.

The best Heidi Klum has ever looked at the Emmys was last year when she wore the blue fringe dress that was made by a Project Runway contestant.

I don't know how but suddenly I'm a huge fan of Constance Zimmer.
That is a blod choice for a preggo imo.
Holla at Schreiber, hope he and Lieb will present together at the main event.

Nina Dobrev never really impresses on the red carpet, which is weird because she's absolutely stunning. Pablo Schreiber kinda grosses me out, but he looks good here.

Anne Marie, I second the love. Please give your poor cat my apologies.

Glenn, amen on the blue. We already know she's stunning, I don't get why she insists on showing off so much all the time!

Mindy Kaling looks gorgeous! Klum would be my silver medal choice though.
