Awards Update
Everyone's making their final moves -- Oscar ballots out on Feb 12th. Jennifer Jason Leigh is getting a tribute at the American Cinematheque. They'll be screening Hateful Eight, Georgia (the closest she ever came to a nom' previously), her divisive Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle (she's excellent), Single White Female and breakout hit Fast Times at Ridgmont High.
Finally, the ACE Eddie Awards were handed out last night. The winners:
- Mad Max: Fury Road (Drama)
- The Big Short (Comedy)
- Inside Out (Animated)
- Amy (Documentary).

Toni Collette should go back to Australia and deliver something like Japanese Story. It's better to be a leading lady with great roles in Australia than a underused actress in stock roles in Hollywood.
The casting of Toni Colette is intriguing, when so many in the business (ie: Kate Winslet) admire her so much, how is it she doesn't get more/better parts?
After "Little Miss Sunshine" how is it Steve Carrell gets a big Oscar part every year and Toni Colette...?
"Toni Collette doing a bureaucrat role in a XXX movie" has two possible meanings and I find the one involving a Vin Diesel franchise far more depressing.
Those choice of Jane Fonda's best moments with the exception of Klute are hardly representative. Even the one from Cat Ballou isn't her standout moment in the movie it's Marvin's. And no They Shoot Horses, Don't They? without that anything look at her career is incomplete.
2007 was a very important year in my Jennifer Jason Leigh fandom—it's basically when I discovered her, via Margot at the Wedding. I remember TFE illustrating what an uphill battle it would be for her EVER to get nominated, even though critics and commenters seemed to have high hopes that year.
Such a good movie, too. She and Kidman both deserved attention.
I reckon 'Naked Lesbian Shoulders' would be a great band name!

I refer to Maggot at the Wedding as Nicole Kidman in a Pink Hat movie. I own the DVD which proves how hard core I use to ride for Kidman who has not made a movie I can use since The Paperboy.
maybe Toni is taking the paychecks from Krampus and that Vin Deisel movie to fund her own directing/starring project? A man can dream right?
Is Nicole Holofcener the only director who knows how to use Collette? And even she could do better...
