You know what's weird? I kind of miss Amy Adams. I was so exhausted by her in recent years with all the Hollywood Report roundtables and the easy awards track even for minor work that was forgotten instantly (Big Eyes anyone?). But the year off as well at that recent David O. Russell confessional has made the heart grow fond again. Funny how that can happen. See also Cate Blanchett's short break some years ago.

Well Amy still could pull it off now I guess.
What's weird about her career is that even starring in a Spielberg film opposite DiCaprio, it didn't take off until that little indie called Junebug.
Hope she'll win her Oscar soon.
Adams has to earn an Oscar win. They give her easy passes nomination wise because her vehicles are usually ensembles which are popular with the actors' branch. Overdue victory will only create resentment and backlash. Also, she is not overdue a Best Actress Oscar. How dare anyone build their nomination count entirely in the subordinate category to be awarded in the premium one.
Amy Adams absence has NOT made my heart grow fonder, but then she could stay forever and it would be a-okay by me.
I hadn't made that Judge Garland/Judy Garland misread yet but now I'll probably do it every time!
That's a great picture of Crawford who was renown for her devotion to her fans and personalizing her correspondence.
That was a terrific article Daniel did, very cool that Friedkin both took note of it and took the time to let him know he liked it.
My love for Amy is unwavering.
What I notice when I see one of her old movies, is how much sharper and smarter it is than I realized at the time.
I'm ride or die for Amy. She could double Meryl's nomination count for nothing but Big Eyes sequels and I'd still love her for Junebug and those pictures of her dancing in a pig costume for Minnesota dinner theater before she moved to Hollywood.

I've been a pretty staunch Amy Adams critic, but I agree. American Hustle was a very weird moment that fostered so much resentment that's neither her fault nor fair to her:
— The role. Is Amy Adams sexy? How dare she try to play sexy. We know you're not sexy, Amy Adams!
— The company. A life-sized actress (and dull celebrity) alongside larger-than-life personalities. Who does she think she is? Ageism—Jennifer Lawrence is the main attraction at this rodeo.
— The director. Why is she working with him again except for a craven Oscar grab? She should be as sick as David O. Russell as we're becoming.
— The fifth Oscar nomination. It's too much! It's too soon! We weren't appropriately warned (by precursors) that it was coming!
— Viola Davis and Melissa Leo...projected onto Jennifer Lawrence. Is Amy Adams capable of standing out in her own film, much less the film year?!
— Anne Hathaway. Weird, sustained backlash against nice song-and-dance kids making good.
— LOIS LAINE?!
— Those press interviews. Has she ever been coached? Why is she so bad at being a celebrity?
So yeah, I'm happy to admit that Amy Adams is probably a genius and the best thing about American Hustle. The odds were just stacked against her to avoid sexism, ageism, and snark. I can't wait to see what she does in the next acts of her career.
As a massive Jinkx fan, I wouldn't shout out her name at at airport if I was behind her. I'd be much too shy.
Amy Adams is great. It's this weird type of backlash that really hurt female star careers as they get older (vs their male counterparts). Now all it will take is a couple of flops/misfires really and any good lead roles going her way could dry up.

Except, I guess, for the staunch critic part - since I myself fell head over heels for Amy via Junebug and am yet to get past the honeymoon phase.
She's been nothing except electric on-screen and consistently challenging herself/choosing interesting work for a decade*. So all that cattiness along the lines of "ugh she's such a boring celebrity off-screen, she doesn't do anything a drag queen would do and she even has the nerve to give birth and talk about her infant! what kind of diva does that!" was/is is both ugly and disheartening.
* (I'll admit that I didn't see Big Eyes but even the negative reviews all singled her out as a highlight and she looked perfectly watchable/committed in the promo clips and that car-crash of a trailer, so I doubt she was somehow off her game and getting awards regardless)

I've enjoyed Amy Adams ever since "Drop Dead Gorgeous". GO MUSKIES.
I like Amy Adams. She is a warm and comfortable presence on screen, and at times she is excellent and really elevates her movie. But she's inconsistent. She needs the right director and the right role. Hoping lots of great work is still ahead of her.
P.S. I love to see Alan Cumming on the banner. He is not talked about nearly enough.
I've only disliked Adams in a movie twice. Man of Steel and American Hustle. Everything else has been great.
I love Amy Adams. I think she is need of a break but which only makes her upcoming return more enjoyable. Plus, David O. Russell is a fucking dick.

I like her generally, and adored her in "Enchanted", "Junebug", "The Fighter", and "American Hustle" - so I'm all for her getting more good roles and Oscar love.
Yep, Amy Adams is so the Marsha Mason of the 00's with even more undeserved and coattail noms. She only truly deserved her nom for Junebug, the rest was all about the right place/right time. The Big Eyes miss was glorious cause it proved once again she can't act and has no star power. Her Doubt nom is probably the worst Oscar nom ever, lmao, she was legit on an SNL skit of a shy nun. Then she tried to become America's sweetheart with a bunch on romcoms and was embarrassing in all of them, Leap Year lmao, poor thing and Julie & Julia where she really made the Meryl segment soar in comparison.
And let's not talk about her Lois Lane. When Teri Hatcher and Kate Bosworth are better than you, nothing else needs to be said. Hopefully her TV years are soon, she doesn't belong in a big screen, The sooner she's done with movies, the better for everyone. Her guest starring role in Smallville is probably her second best performance.
I for one would like to see Amy Adams have a much longer break. Like a Rene Russo sort of break.
