Emmy Ballots Out.

Nomination voting begins today on the 68th annual Emmy Awards. We've FYC'ed a few shows already so please do chime in on those pieces for Girls, Shameless, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and UnREAL. Agree? Disagree? (More FYCs to come in this first week of voting.) Since the television Academy is notoriously stubborn about repeating themselves, regardless of the quality variations in particular seasons and shifting MVPs for given shows, our wildest dream each year is that each person with a ballot will think carefully before writing down names that they've already honored. Some deserve to be back. But never all of 'em.

If you had a vote which perennial nominee would you replace with which never nominated treasure?

Even if voters prove traditionally lazy and complacent this year, they'll still be forced to make a few changes: Mad Men, The News Room, Nurse Jackie, and Parks and Recreation are no longer with us which forces vacancies in Drama Series, Drama Lead Actor, Drama Supporting Actress, and Comedy Leading Actress. Meanwhile this Emmy season is the last for Downton Abbey and The Good Wife which will help with shuffling next year.

The best film is the requirement and desire for the people. There are many people who are trying to made best movies. The demand for the best movies might leads from the awards. This might be done by the balloting process.

Uzo Aduba out. Literally anyone else from Orange is the New Black in. I didn't like Season 3 very much so Uzo's inevitable nomination (and win?) will feel even more unnecessary this year. I wouldn't mind seeing the show get nothing.

That said, House of Cards season 4 really stepped it up. I'd love to see Elizabeth Marvel nominated for the first time—her Heather Dunbar is one of the most delicately and powerfully rendered characters on the show. How do you telegraph raw integrity in that cast of villains? She finds a way.

I just want Alison Wright for her INCREDIBLE performance in The Americans.

And Frank Langella. And the leads, of course.

Hayden -- I loved Season 3 and appreciated that it didn't try to be so Good vs Evil one storyline (i found that oppressive last year as much as I enjoyed Lorraine Toussaint) but I do think the insistence that Uzo is always the best on the show to be tremendously unfortunate given the wealth of talent displayed. If I were the show's publicists I'd be trying to promote different people each year and make the show even more of a "look at all these great actresses of different skin colors and ages" rather than settle for Uzo symbolizes the whole show.

Adrienne C Moore ("Black Cindy") gave the most deserving unexpectedly moving (yet still hilarious) performance from Season 3 and it'll be a shame to see her ignored for Uzo again.

Take Uzo out and put in Taryn Manning.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJoey

Can Broad City get some love please!!!

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMojo

Hayden W.: Will Uzo win supporting actress? Slight surprise I'm honestly expecting? Jessica Jones getting a lot of nominations and anywhere from 2-5 wins. (Specifically? Title Design (win), Supporting Actor (David Tennant, AKA WWJD?) (win), Lead Actress (Submission: AKA Top Shelf Perverts) (possible win), Drama Series (possible win), Writing (AKA WWJD?), Direction of an Episode (John Dahl, AKA Sin Bin), Cinematography (AKA Take a Bloody Number) (possible win) and Production Design (AKA WWJD?))

Omg Adrienne C. Moore in that scene explaining her conversion...! At this point I remember very little about Season 3 (never rewatched it), but damn that was an incredible monologue.

Overall, my FYC would have to be Andrew Rannells in Girls. Such great work this season with the Corey Stoll story line.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJake D

The Americans for ALL the drama series categories and NOTHING for Downton, Homeland, House of Cards, and The Good Wife (ugh, that last season was so awful, except for the great lineup of Broadway pros as guest stars).

Comedy: Black-ish, Catastrophe, Broad City instead of Veep, Modern Family, Louie

FYC: noms in any category (but particularly writing and lead performances) for Happy Valley, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Crazy Ex Girlfriend

FYC: a nod to Olivia Colman and Elizabeth Debicki for The Night Manager (cuz they were best-in-show in a cool production, but rather dull, limited series)

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPam

FYC FTW: CHRISTINE BARANSKI IN THE GOOD WIFE
Homegirl deserves a win after 7 frickin seasons and a magnificent performance on the finale.
I will throw a crazy tantrum if anyone else wins; consider her the Jon Hamm of Drama Supporting Actress.

RUPAUL - Outstanding Reality Series Host....

But if it hasn't happened by now it never will *Sniffle*

Just so boring seeing Heidi Klum and the other usuals over and over

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

I can't believe none of your are even considering the one person who really deserves an Emmy..... Bruce Campbell for Ash vs. The Evil Dead.

Craver- I love Christine too but the Kings pretty much abandoned her character until the finale. I'm hoping the spinoff will shine a brighter light on her comedic and dramatic talents so we will see her taking a Lead Emmy next year.

Add EVA GREEN and the cast of The Americans. Kick anyone out but Viola, Tatiana and Cicely.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

I want The Americans to finally get the attention it deserves. This season was the very best of a meticulously planned four seasons. I'd be especially happy if Alison Wright, Keri Russell and the series are nominated.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Artemis Pebdani for Best Drama Supporting Actress, easily. She's hands down my favorite part of Scandal and really nails a kind of magnetic, essentially basic goodness in her character that's all the more impressive for however many other actors simply fail at trying to get anywhere near her level in other "inspiringly decent person" roles. Her very last scene of the season is knockout and I love her romantic arc, which occasionally went silly but damn she sold me on it. Bellamy Young has been doing regularly great work and I think is the only reason that part works at all and if that happens it'll be great, but I'm just on the Pebdani train all the way and I pray it happens.

@ Volvagia - I'm totally with you on the Jessica Jones love, especially for Tennant(!) and Ritter, though I'm a little more skeptical it can win or break as high as you think it does. A moment of silence for Carrie-Ann Moss and Robin Weigert, who probably would've contended for Guest Actress nominations had the rules not been (rightfully) changed.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNick T

Supporting Actress in Drama is super-crowded. I have always been a huge fan of Baranski, but this year my heart belongs to Maura Tierney in The Affair.

Nathaniel just tweeted that Adrienne C Moore is not eligible. I'm so mad! Her breakout scene with the rabbi had everything I expect to find in a performance.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Just take Uzo out. SOMEONE ELSE from Orange needs to start winning Emmys besides her. That cast is stacked and it's baffling that she's the only one who's continuously singled out.

I'd also like to nominate Constance Zimmer for Unreal.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAkash

American Crime for best drama. Regina King and Felicity Huffman were terrific.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered Commentercash

I second everything said about OITNB and the singular focus on Uzo Aduba. She's wonderful, but the bench is so deep that a show the Emmys obviously like is only represented by this one nomination.

I hate to say it, because I think Krysten Ritter is so good (should've been nominated for The B In Apartment 23 a few years back), but I just can't see the Emmys going for Jessica Jones. But she's deserving, for sure.

Others it would be nice to see get in, but whose chances are perhaps a bit dicey: Alison Wright for The Americans (please not just a lazy nod to Margot Martindale again), Shiri Appleby, Constance Wu, Connor Jessup, Rachel McAdams, Sharon Hogan and Rob Delaney.

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterben1283

Along with the dynamic ladies (Regina King, Lili Taylor and Felicity Huffman) and young hawks (Trevor Jackson, Connor Jessup, Joey Pollari) of American Crime, I hope they show some love to WGN's Underground, especially Amirah Vann as Ernestine. No doubt, the most complex portrait of an enslaved person I've ever seen.

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNewMoonSon

Jane Fonda for Grace and Frankie. And for God's sake, what the hell does Eden Sher have to do to get an Emmy nomination!

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

If national treasure Tovah Feldshuh doesn't get a Guest Actress nomination for Crazy Ex Girlfriend, I will have to steal Emmy voters' pets or something.

And also, THE AMERICANS. PLEASE, DEAR GOD.

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

People.... SARAH PAULSON for American Crime Story! She is undeniable!

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBD

aka The People v. O.J. Simpson

June 14, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBD

Tracee Ellis Ross for Blackish pleeease!

Broad City girls.

RuPaul.

Sarah Paulson finally winning her Emmy that she should've won already.

Not many of these seem likely at all lol.

June 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

I finally caught up on the latest season of "New Girl" and I'd have to say I'd really love to see Max Greenfield earn another Emmy nom, but also see Lamorne Morris earn his first, as both actors (and their characters) were really excellent during this one. Not sure how it'll shift with the next season, but I'm glad we finally got to see Morris' character develop much more.

As great as Constance Zimmer was playing the role of Quinn King on UnREAL she would be nothing without Shiri Appleby. Shiri gets a gold star as well. This was her coming out party. She’s still not a household name just yet but give her some time and that will all change. She’s been working in the business for 30+ years and hopefully all that hard work will have paid off. Shiri was absolutely brilliant. This was the role she was born to play. Best role of her career for sure. I could not see anyone else playing the role of Rachel Goldberg other than Shiri Appleby. They both put 110% into UnREAL and it shows. They made me forget they were acting. I also don't need an award to know how good UnREAL was. Best show of 2015. In my opinion of course.

P.S. while UnREAL can be very funny at times it's still an hour long Drama.
