Beauty Break: Jeff Bridges in 1984

by Murtada

We know the origin of the  current fetishization of luxurious facial hair, that’s been going on for quite sometime. No it’s not Oscar Isaac, or any of the Marvel guys. Its origin is 1984 and Jeff Bridges in Against All Odds. Behold.

Need further proof? Here you go.

Why not two more.

Many people probably wanted to be in Rachel Ward’s shoes in that movie. The screen sizzled with the heat of their pairing, thanks largely to how good Bridges looked.

Against All Odds wasn’t Bridges only 1984 hit. He was Oscar nominated for playing an alien who charms a widow, played by Karen Allen, in Starman. His clipped, studious speech might not be to modern moviegoers’ taste, but Bridges is still utterly winning. It helps of course that he’s naked in his introduction.

1984 was a glorious time to watch Bridges on screen.

The beauty of Jeff Bridges is the only reason I remember anything about "Against All Odds".

Bridges is still beautiful, but in a gristly, rugged kind of way ;-)

Jeff Bridges was never hotter than in "Against All Odds"

What year was Jagged Edge? Poor Glenn Close. When will she ever get recognized with the honorary Oscar?

Against All Odds was never going to be able to match the original Out of the Past but Jeff Bridges at the peak of his beauty softened the blow. He always had the best hair.

Love him in Starman as well. He and Karen Allen had far better chemistry than he did with Rachel Ward.

Jeff has one of the most expansive and variable of Oscar histories. He started off with a nod for Last Picture Show, got another for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and one for Starman, both quite bizarre parts, then finally won much later. Against All Odds is a strange movie, but not without its charms. James Woods and Swoozie Kurtz are fun in badly written roles. It's fun to see Jane Greer, who was a lead in the original Out of the Past.

Good god, Jeff in Against All Odds. The American Heart poster was an early defining image for me, and his entire career before it is just one Beauty Break after another.

Jeff Bridges is the alltime most sexy beautiful with all his love showing in his face. Terry Brogan, Starman, Burt Vickerman, Bad Blake... doesn’t matter...what a babe!!!
