Red Carpet: Venice, Toronto and Kruger (Oh, My!)

Jose here. I'm glad to report that as the temperatures come down, slightly, so do the hemlines, which means it's red carpet season! <3 So let's get down to business! First up in Venice we have Eva Herzigova in a sheer, but elegant, Alberta Ferreti. The Italian designer's bold work usually pops up in Venetian red carpets and Herzigova's simple styling make us think she's equally ready for a fancy cocktail party, as she is for lounging poolside. Next up the divine Emma Stone in Atelier Versace, who more and more seems to be paying homage to red carpet goddess Nicole Kidman and you won't hear me complain about that.

European red carpets tend to be more playful which is why it's no surprise to see Chiara Mastroianni in this androgynous suit from Gucci, the smoky makeup and severe hair round up one of my favorite looks of the year. Since Amy Adams is in the new Tom Ford movie, she might as well wear what he designs, right? (Also, talk about multitasking Mr. Ford) She's a vision in this sparkling column that seems to have sprung from a Halston wet dream.  More looks after the jump!

If you're playing one of the world's greatest fashion icons you better bring your A game to the red carpet, and I'm glad to report Natalie Portman is doing Jackie O. good with her recent choices. First up she goes a little bit more matronly than usual in a patterned Valentino complimented with a bracelet and dark eye makeup. Next up, she continues being the only actress who Dior has never wronged as she wears a breathtaking Greek-inspired dress styled to perfection with a gorgeous red lipstick and minimal accesories. For a photo call she goes the mini-dress route in Red Valentino, that makes me think perhaps the Italian house is the best option for mothers-to-be (remember how lovely Keira Knightley looked throughout the 2015 awards season?)

Across the Atlantic, it seems stars have been upping their game in Toronto and couture is showing up more often. Ziyi Zhang is at her usual effortlessly graceful self in an Elie Saab dress that made me think of the Chrysler Building, next up Oscar winner Brie Larson is at her all-time best in a multicolored Alexander McQueen she paired with two Tiffany rings and delicate makeup, plus she finally tied her hair up, which makes me so happy. Last but not least, and jumping back to Europe for a second, where at the Deauville festival Diane Kruger continued schooling everyone on how one should look on the red carpet, her sheer Elie Saab pretty much sums up what I loved about all the other looks feaured today: it's playful, timeless, and leaves you wanting for more.

Which of these looks is your favorite? What red carpet are you looking forward to the most?

Diane Kruger oh my thank you for being continual queen of red carpet. Shame that she wasn't nommed for Inglorious Basterds tho.
Holla Amy, wow Tom Ford will be doing a lot of double duty this year.

Sheer is the worst red carpet trend. Why does anybody want to look like they're wearing a one-piece bathing suit with some see through fabric attached to the bottom? Elegant is rarely achieveable when we can see your undergarments so thoroughly.

My reaction to so many sheer dresses is "this would be so beautiful if it were lined"

Favorite - Emma Stone in Atelier Versace. Easily, since I agree entirely with Ivonne about the sheer dresses.

Natalie Portman looks stunning, especially in the Dior white gown. Simple, classy and timeless.

The Dior white gown looks like a toga. Sorry!

Adams is going to kill this awards season w/ Ford. She hasn't ever had a red carpet WOW moment, but I also think she's beginning to gain a confidence that we've never seen.

And funny that Dior can't dress Lawrence properly, but they do Portman justice.

Thank you, Jose. Emma is giving me pageant. AMy Adams looks like a real movie star. Brie is pefection. That McQueen silhouette with the sleeves is awesome.
