HAPPY NEW YEAR
Any cinematic resolutions? I have them but they're all behind the scenes to make this blog the best it can be in a wide open new year.

They say bad times make good art... let's hope so!
Only resolution I have is to watch more movies than last year (the tally for 2016 was 215), so here's to trying! Watching more documentaries is always a goal as well.
I'll Be Seeing You, 1944, with Joseph Cotten, Ginger Rogers and Shirly Temple, Directed by William Dieterle (and George Cuckor, uncredited). This was Temple's second release in 1944 under contract to David O. Selznick. The other film was Since You Went Away, also with Cotten, Claudette Colbert and Jennifer Jones.
Happy New Year, Nathaniel! All the best for 2017.
Since You Went Away is so good! Jennifer Jones kills.
I resolve to watch more foreign films--something I have neglected.
My big cinematic resolution is to read more about film theory and film history, and less about upcoming films. And to watch less trailers. More and more, I am discovering the beauty of watching films with no preconceived notion of it's critical reception, or even what the hell the film is about. This is very difficult being in Australia, when we get films much later and our film festivals are pretty lacking in their line-ups. But this is my resolution. And to of course, watch more movies!
My big project is to explore the musical genre this year. Just try and watch, and know the history, of the movie musical.
Yeah, do more low brow to balance the high-brow films I've been doing and improve on the 400 films that I saw in 2016. Plus, go to the theaters more as I didn't see a lot of films in 2016.
Mine is to make a movie... :)
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year!

Happy P'first Pfeiffer Day Film Experience!
Richter Scale --oooh. godspeed!
Andrew -- i might join you on that. In addition to the weekly Pfeiffer series I'm trying to cook up other projects that might lift my spirits and the spirits of others (positivity in the face of darkness that's coming!) and musicals might be a great way to do that... . It's not that i think i can do everything (and I hate collapsing on ideas or not finishing things as sometimes happens) but it's just that i want to get more organized about when and what I'm watching / writing about and thus (hopefully) be able to accomplish more limited or long term series projects. So I'm totally cutting myself off from binge-watching impulse. Such a waste of time. If a television show doesn't grab me after 2 or 3 episodes, i'm out. (I'm still furious with myself for wasting 8+ hours during a very busy week on THE OA on Netflix.)
the filmjunkie - that's a good number, though!
Happy New Year!!!!
Happu New Year Nathaniel!

Happy New Year Film Experience!
I'm interested to know what cities aren't playing La La Land. I went home for Christmas and it was playing in my small Canadian hometown and yet it's still in limited release? My friends in Australia have been seen it. Haha.
I'm going to try to rewatch at least one favorite movie a week. I tried to do this last year and only rewatched 38. There's a lot of value in revisiting movies you enjoy.
I'm also going to get an Amazon Firestick so I can watch Filmstruck on TV. I think you should try to watch films through the best technical means you can afford.
Happy new year!
Happy New Year to TFE and all its readers !
Nathaniel- only if you choose the wrong shows for binge-watching. Some (like The OA) don't get better with more episodes. Some (Fleabag, Crazyhead, Happy Valley, Crazy Ex GF, Lovesick) are perfect throughout.
I would like to see more movies in the theater in 2017, if only they would thrill me as much as La La Land did today. I loved every single second.
