Amy & Isabelle... and that perplexing Best Actress race.

Isabelle Huppert shared this lovely glamorous blur of two of our Best Actress Contenders at a Globe party on her Instagram account. Share worthy it is though our favorite part is Huppert's matter of fact no-frills captions which are usually "avec [insert celebrity's name]" brief.

These two ginger beauties remind us that we've been playing with that Best Actress Chart all day and no combo of five women still feels quite right. Something's got to give. But we don't want to give any of them up! Now more than ever can't we cancel one of the male acting categories and just give them women another 5 slots?

Who do you think is stronger than the buzz suggests? I keep thinking Ruth Negga which is why I still am betting on her (for this update at least. We'll obviously have to revisit each chart for final predictions). And which leading lady is more vulnerable and could be a surprise miss? Sound off!

Streep's speech was awe-inspiring and brought me to tears. And some things are more important than Oscars. Did I just type that? But if Streep knocks out Bening from the Oscar lineup because of that one thing, that amazing moment will be forever tainted. I'm sorry.

20 nominations--that's just gross.

Adams or Portman are your surprise snub.

Nathaniel, question: Do the unlocked padlock icons mean "safe bet"?

January 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTyler

Lincoln a "weepfest"? Low blow, Eric.

So...pretty sure about these stats. If Taraji or Octavia get a nomination, they will join Whoopi and Viola as the only black actresses with two nominations. And when Viola is nominated, she become the ONLY black woman to receive three nominations. (Oprah, Ruth Carter, Sharen Davis, and Siedah Garrett all have two as well)

Its a BIG mistake to not nominated Streep...its a Shame you comparing Streep with Negga.... Streep is the Queen....u can't compare the Queen with ORGANIC people....sorry Nathaniel this time u're wrong....very very wrong !!!!

January 12, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterarturo

But arturo, u shouldn't get nominated because you're the queen. You should get nominated because you gave one of the five best leading perfotmances. And Streep did not.

Tyler -- yes.

Brooksboy- That is your opinion. Not sure why anyone finds a Streep nomination shocking with GG, SAG, AND BAFTA- more of a feat than AOC or ITW. The truth is she earned it this year.

January 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

Jamie, I don't find a nom shocking. That's the point I'm making. It's rubber stamping. I don't find it shocking in the least. That's why it's sad. I saw FFJ.

January 12, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Brooksboy- got it! Rubber stamping......

January 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

Jamie and brokesboy....its hurt me really really really HURT me when people underestimate Streep performance in FFJ.
She's so good in it.. because Meryl got her 20th people start talking that she's dont deserve for some of her nominations...you all crazy if you think about that !!!
Jamie and brokesboy.. I AGREE with you.. rubber stamping !!!

January 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterarturo

Jamie and arturo, let me put it another way...

Come Oscar nominations morning, the queen gets her 20th (twen-teeeeee-ITH) nomination for a very good but not great performance. Meanwhile, the sublime Annette Bening (who is 58 by the way, and over the hill according to Hollywood asshats) misses her fifth nomination for what critics are saying is her best work ever. OR the other scenario is, the legendary Isabelle Huppert doesn't get her FIRST Oscar nomination after winning the US critics prize trifecta. And only one woman has missed a nomination after accomplishing that elusive, gargantuan feat.

Just think about that while trying to defend Meryl's inexorable thievery...

January 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

moi - I think Viola Davis could & should win in the BA category.....it's a shame / sham she is being demoted to SA. Portman should be pulled from the ranks....just an imitation game with good costumes.

Davis
Stone
Adams
Streep
Hubert

Brooksboy- I guess that depends on if you agree that Bening or Huppert are one of the top 5 best performances of the year by an actress. But the Oscars are never about the 5 best- usually more ham often it is the 5 best narratives.

January 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

Jamie, you're very right. There's always another reason for winning an Oscar besides giving a terrific performance--timing, overdueness, ingenueness, popularity, great year, bankability, politics, etc. I really wish they would wait for an undeniable job from Meryl before they nominate her again. Looks like that isn't gonna happen. Sigh.

January 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Meryl Streep's movie opened in London April 2016, and this FFJ role still stays strong in everyone's minds after almost a full year of world release doesn't count for anything? She's really deserve to be in the top5.

January 14, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterjack

Jack, I think she's perfectly fine but hardly deserves an Oscar nomination when compared to these other brilliant women. Meryl didn't do anything in FFJ except the bad singing that she hasn't done dozens of times, certainly nothing revelatory. Not to mention she's already been over-nominated. I can think of four off the bat she didn't deserve. And I do not hate Meryl; just this pathological need by AMPAS to reward her for farting.
