111 days 'til Oscar

Can you believe Germany's WINGS OF DESIRE (1987) was not nominated for Best Foreign Film? It won numerous prizes that year but Oscar skipped it.

According to numerologists 111 is a very powerful number, sometimes called an "angel number" for spiritual guidance. It signifies that a gate of opportunity is opening -- your dreams can become manifest with positive thinking. (Or some such. Don't ask me I'm not a numerologist. I'm just trying to find cute ways to count down to Oscar, okay?)

In other words those current long shot Oscar campaigns need to be harnessing all their positive thinking on this very day! So tell us your #1 dream for Oscar night this coming March 4th. What reality shall you will into being, nomination-wise or statue win? You know mine already

I like this on Pfeiffer by Sasha Stonehttp://www.awardsdaily.com/2017/11/12/case-michelle-pfeiffer/

,
I am thinking this could be the way she is rewarded for mother! MOTOE and her effortless comeback, they might want to steer clear of the mother role and go with MOTOE which she has the only real arc and every review singles her out for doing gr8 things will v little and she does, lots of juicy clips too.

Hans Zimmer winning Best Score for DUNKIRK.

My wish every year - for John Williams to win another Oscar :-)

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAdam Lewis

I echo Cal Roth - Moore should totes be a nominee for WONDERSTRUCK, especially in a year this ho-hum for supporting women.

Call Me By Your Name nominated for Best Picture, pleeeaaassse! 111 111 111...!

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterEdward L.

Since James Gray (The Lost City of Z) getting in for Best Director seems impossible, I'll go with Sally Hawkins getting in for Maudie rather than The Shape of Water. That's more plausible, right?

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBVR

Well, I guess now is the time to mention that I think it's crazy that no one is talking about how awesome Anne Hathaway is in Colossal. She probably won't even be discussed as an option for comedy GG, which is insane to me.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterCash

Timothee, Michael, Armie, Sufjan and Luca all nominated for Call Me By Your Name.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

BVR -

Maudie is my favorite movie of the year so far. It would be great if The Shape of Water would bring attention to Sally Hawkins' extraordinary work here. And it would be nice for Ethan Hawke would also be recognized for his best performance ever.

-Sienna Miller ( The Lost City of Z) and Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) nominated as Supporting Actresses. Diane Kruger ( In The Fade) and Jessica Chastain ( Molly`s Game or Woman Walks Ahead, I don`t care for which one, she`s always fantastic) nominated for BA.
EVERYBODY deservedly getting nominated for Call me by your Name.
Frances McDormand winning her second Oscar and Jake Gyllenhaal & Michelle Pfeiffer winning their first one.
ZERO Nominations for Meryl Streep, Emma Stone,Tom Hanks, Octavia Spencer, Get Out and Wonder Woman.
The Academy showing some love for The Killing of a Sacred Deer ( Yorgos Lanthimos), Wonderstruck and The Disaster Artist ( maybe a surprise James Franco and (one) scene stealer Sharon Stone nods )

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterEder Arcas

If Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep don't show up, it will be fine. Nothing against them. They are talented - I'm sure they'll be *in* next year. So, stay out this year, please. Probably this year some of them will, two or the three... I like them, but not this year, please...

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterGiovanni

Will finally The A** rediscover Jake Gyllenhaal ? ☂ How well Sam Rockwell is known to get a nomination ? ☂ Call Me By Your Name needs do good in the box office or The A** will “make a Carol of it”. ☂ I lost my hope in Jessica Chastain. The A** doesn't care about her anymore. Who knows this time ? ☂ I made my peace with James Franco; he's welcome. ☂ Margot Robbie not bad. ☂ Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand, Salma Hayek, Judi Dench, Miranda Richardson, Michael Shannon, Allison Janney, Sally Hawkins, Michelle Williams, Willem Dafoe, Cynthia Nixon, Annette Bening... Can it happen? I know I'm asking too much. Why Viola Davis doesn't have a movie this year?

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterIngrid_Essex

A tie for best picture or director.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

No love for Bening? Althot her perf is consider brillant in a so so (read: beneath her talents!) film.. I still hope she wld pull a Butterfield 8 at the Oscars!!

If not Bening, then I hope it's Ronan.. She's earning the best reviews o her ahem young career now!

And i wish tt Hathaway will be nom in GG comedy/musical over Watson.

I luv me some Meryl, but metink she shld really take a break from the crowded field this yr.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterClaran

Brooklynn Prince NOT getting nominated for The Florida Project. Way too many fabulous performances to choose from in the Lead Actress category to waste a nomination on her . The triumph is more Sean Baker's than hers.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMichael R

Meryl nominated and won for the Post, box office hit for Mamma Mia 2 in summer, box office hit and nominated in supporting for Mary Poppins Returns at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, during which announce two new movies (therefore being a contender f....... again for 2019), make life absolute hell for her haters all through the whole 2018 year. I'm just kidding. At this point I just want to see The Post if it any good (่just wait for two more weeks).

I'm glad Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan are strong contenders, and sad that Michelle Pfeiffer is not despite two high profile roles, and accept the fact that Julianne Moore has two high profile movies but has absolutely no buzz.

The Supporting Actor is still the most exciting category and anyone in the top 7 could win. That how strong this category is this year.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterjack

Get Out in Picture, Director, Screenplay, and Supporting Actress (Allison Williams).

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterStritch Bankhead

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBJ

I would love to see a tie in one of the acting races.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMichael R

No ties are allowed any longer.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commentergrrr

Glad to see people speaking out against Meryl's default nomination status.

November 13, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPete

Glad to see people speaking up for Meryl. Going to be a long awards season folks!

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

@grr but there was a tie in 2012 Sound Editing. Is it not allowed anymore?

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterCharlie

Ties are definitely allowed. It is only in the best picture race with the preferential ballot that a tie is virtually impossible.

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMichael R

@Pete: yes, you are all so brave.

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterArlo

I'd like to have an awards season without over-the-top negativity. Since the Inarritu portion of awards season is over, I can promise to no longer be overly negative this season!

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Harry Dean Stanton nominated as Best Actor.

This category needs a little inspiration, and who better than a true American original to keep us thinking about the joys of an iconoclastic artist?

November 14, 2017 | Unregistered Commenteradri

adri, that would be amazing. What a gifted artist.
