Cast List: "Too Old to Die Young"

by Nathaniel R

After his success d'estime with Drive (remember that surprising but wonderful Cannes Best Director win?) his provocative (aka insane) follow-ups, Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon, have not been greeted so enthusiastically. But Denmark's second most famous director shows no signs of slowing down...

Next up he's turning to serialized storytelling with a new Amazon series called Too Old to Die Young about various criminal characters in Los Angeles. He's just revealed his cast list on social media. Is it wrong to be amused that Billy Baldwin gets to cuddle up next to him while everyone else sits on the couch together? (Perhaps Baldwin has the largest role?)

Jena Malone and Elle Fanning in The Neon Demon (2016)The cast photos from left to right are: Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), ubiquitous Miles Teller, Oscar nominee John Hawkes, Cristina Rodlo (in the ensemble cast of the forthcoming Miss Bala remake), Augusto Aguilaro (in the forthcoming reboot of The Predator franchise), Babs Olusanmokum (Roots, The Night Of), wonderful Jena Malone, Callie Hernandez (one of Emma's dancing roommates in La La Land), and Billy Baldwin. Only Malone is a repeat customer for Refn, and why not? He must surely worship her after her nutso committment to that bizarre predatory necrophiliac lesbian role he gave her in The Neon Demon.

Will you watch?

I hope he makes another movie as cool as "Drive"

Drive was one of my favorite movies of 2011. I didn't see Only God Forgives, but The Neon Demon was seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

The Neon Demon could've been something special if he didn't always insist on filming so many scenes without dialogue. It's gorgeous to look at and its most provocative scenes are certainly memorable...but Refn's penchant for such an offbeat tone doesn't work for every story or every genre. It worked for Drive. It hasn't worked since.

Drive was only let down by that terrible Carey Mulligan performance. My god talk about a bad performance in a very good film.

I love him. And his follow-ups to Drive are preferable movies for me.

I think Drive is his only movie that he didn't write; it's also by far his best.

Here's hoping he has some seasoned writers on this new show to help him reign in his bad habits.

I don't know why but that photo annoys me...

^it's because Refn's got a douchy face AND a douchy demeanor - him and Miles Teller will get along swimmingly, I think!

What a meh cast! with the exception of Jena Malone and John Hawkes.

Billy "has been "Baldwin! -- WTF!

Will I watch show? Sure, only to see if Refn can redeem himself after
Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon.

After The Neon Demon I'm up for anything by him.
