SAG Voting Commences

We've already discussed the Ensemble peculiarites and the SAG nomination announcement. Some awards shows go direct from nominations to final voting but in SAG's case there's a moment to breathe. So now, a week after the nominations, they begin determining winners with their final ballots due on January 19th. Who would you vote for?

24th Annual Screen Actors Guild SAG Awards® will air Jan. 21 on TNT and TBS, hosted by Kristen Bell... though we still haven't worked out why SAG of all shows need a host (since they ONLY give out awards, unlike other shows with so many "bits")

Because this year they are going to have bits.

The way you said that Ronald was hilarious.

Lady Bird/Get Out - can't decide
Saoirse Ronan
Timothée Chalamet
Laurie Metcalf
Willem Dafoe

Stuhlbarg should have been nominated, though.

How did Meryl miss out on a nomination here?

December 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterKedi

How I would vote:
BEST ACTOR - Timothée Chalamet, "Call Me By Your Name"
BEST ACTRESS - Saoirse Ronan, "Lady Bird"
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Willem Dafoe, "The Florida Project"
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Laurie Metcalf, "Lady Bird"
BEST ENSEMBLE - "Mudbound"
.
My predictions:
BEST ACTOR - Gary Oldman, "Call Me By Your Name"
BEST ACTRESS - Saoirse Ronan, "Lady Bird"
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Willem Dafoe "The Florida Project"
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Allison Janney, "I, Tonya"
BEST ENSEMBLE - "Lady Bird"

Not watching this year

I will be so angry if a movie like Three Billboards wins here.

Predictions?
Ensemble: Get Out
Actor: Gary Oldman
Actress: Frances McDormand
Supporting Actress: Laurie Metcalf
Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe

Three Billboards (Alt, Lady Bird)
Gary Oldman (Alt, Timothée Chalamet)
Margot Robbie (Alt, Saoirse Ronan))
Sam Rockwell (Alt, Willem Dafoe)
Laurie Metcalf (Alt, Allison Janney)
Dunkirk (Alt, Wonder Woman)

Best Actress is the biggest question mark as it could easily be any of the primary four contenders. Despite the power of the performance and the film's showing, I think SAG's inclination away from repeat winners will mean McDormand misses out.

Here it gets interesting, because the pattern of SAG is that at least two acting wins come from ensemble nominees. This could mean a win for Saoirse Ronan, but my instinct is that Sam Rockwell ekes this in a surprise, while Robbie takes her first televised prize here.

Still catching up on these films. (I somehow was able to see All the Money in the World before CMBYN, I, Tonya, and some of the others...)

Just formally rooting against Three Billboards! I hate the film so much that the acclaim and attention makes me want to cry.

Lady Bird
Saoirse
Franco
Metcalf
Woody, though I don't care for any of these nominees.

I really don't understand the vitriol for three Billboards. Okay maybe it's not a great film but that doesn't make it Glitter.

December 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterEvaG

But Roger did you hate the acting in Three Billboards? The people who hate the film (I’m not one of them) seem to be taking issue with the writing / storyline. The acting in the film is uniformly strong

Can I vote for Oceans 8 already?

December 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJão

I was not crazy about 3 Billboards and cannot conceive it could win Best Picture anywhere.,

Frances played herself, but I thought Rockwell was great.

I don't get all the hype for Franco. He's good at playing a bad actor. How is this award-worthy?
