In a previous life, Steven Soderbergh must have been a thief

Behold the first image from Lucky Logan which is Soderbergh's first post-retirement theatrical feature. It's yet another heist picture from a director who is very fond of stories about professional thieves and or elaborately planned ambitious crimes. See also Haywire, Oceans franchise, Out of Sight.

Pictured are Adam Driver and Channing Tatum in the background (why are they barely featuring a star as big as Chan in the first still?) and platinum blonde Daniel Craig in the foreground. They're doing an elaborate heist during a NASCAR race.

Are you excited to welcome Soderbergh back to the movies?

wow, even Seth McFarlane is in this. This project looks too good to be true.

I was getting riled up about this until I saw the word NASCAR and my laptop closed.

Is this the movie that also stars Hilary Swank and Katherine Heigl? Pass.

Jesus Alonso: Seth MacFarlane? Didn't he basically crash and burn around the 6th season of Family Guy and he's grasping at straws, trying to maintain his, ultimately short, period of relevance? I doubt his role is that big.
Mareko: Presumably, Heigl was dropped and replaced with Katherine Waterston. Even then? I'd guess the meaty performances in this movie, if it turns out well, are The Logans (Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and Riley Keough) and one other, probably Daniel Craig, with the rest being (to compare this to his Ocean's Eleven remake) Bernie Mac/Casey Affleck style background noise.
Nat: I'm not. Leaving aside the "SIX heist films on a single filmography" factor, setting a heist film at NASCAR likely means a lot of dumb, trashy music (If they announce that a Kid Rock song is on the soundtrack...), if music is used to set the stage. Of the two August 2017 heist films, Baby Driver is probably going to be more my jam, especially since Edgar Wright is, between Ant-Man and Baby Driver, only at one and a half heist films, so it's more likely he's going to be awake for the proceedings.

I'll always watch anything with Hilary.

Heigl wan't dropped and replaced by Waterston - Heigl was replaced by Holmes.

Ulrich: That's...um...less of an upgrade than what I thought it was.

February 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Not if that means he's done with The Knick.

Volvagia: most people would say that!
But I kinda like Katie Holmes!
She's given really strong performances - in Ice Storm, Go, Wonder Boys, The Gift, Abandon, Pieces Of April.

So for me Holmes is a definite upgrade from Heigl.
But I like Heigl in Soderbergh's King Of The Hill 24 years ago,
back when she likable and cute.

Yes!

No.

Ulrich: I didn't say "not an upgrade", just less of one.

February 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

I loved Holmes in The Gift.
