I Just Can't Wait to be Link

/Film Donald Glover will be the voice of Simba and James Earl Jones the voice of Mufasa in the forthcoming remake of The Lion King... I notice it's being lumped in with all the other Disney 'live action remakes of animated pictures' in articles but this one is not live action, but CG and mo-cap like The Jungle Book
E! News Malin Akerman recalls her nude modelling shoot with Jamie Dornan
AnOther interviews John Waters. Multiple Maniacs is getting a rerelease overseas... hence the interview. What I want to know is where in the box set of his complete filmography?
TV Line Darren Criss is Andrew Cunanan and Edgar Ramirez Gianni Versace in the next American Crime Story
Awards Daily TV Best Actress in a Limited Series is already crazy competitive for the next Emmys via Feud, Big Little Lies, and more...

Links after the jump including more Viola, plus Arrival, The Lion King, Night of the Iguana, Boyd Holbrook and more...

LA Times Samuel L Jackson talks I Am Not Your Negro and sounds off on the Oscar race -- he's voting for Denzel but thinks Viola is a lead
Coming Soon has a list of the 50 best movie fist fights. I didn't read the whole thing but I approve of Ripley in her exoskeleton and Viggo in the altogether being among them.
D-Listed good stuff on Scarlett Johansson's recent statement about monogamy not being natural
My New Plaid Pants Boyd Holbrook seven times
Cinema Blend Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) will star in the TV miniseries adaptation of Picnic at Hanging Rock. If you've never seen Peter Weir's movie version in 1975 you really should. It's quite haunting
Coming Soon Michelle Rodriguez joins Elizabeth Debicki and Tony winners Viola Davis (Fences) and Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple) as the fourth female lead of Steve McQueen's Widows. I'm assuming that's all of the principles now since the original series and the first remake in 2002 all starred four women.
/Film this is a cool bit of info -- Arrival is a better movie because it had to change its ending to be less like Interstellar
Variety Berlinale's 10 Europeans to Watch Luncheon
Variety character actor Warren Frost (Twin Peaks, As the World Turns, Matlock) has died at 91.
NYT Why do stars continue campaigning when they know they'll lose the Oscar? This one is focused on the supporting actresses (I can think of another reason that's not touched on here. It's actually good for your Oscar future, if nominated, to try. Momentum means a lot to careers. If Viola Davis hadn't fought to win for The Help and gotten close, do we really think she would be such an easy lock this time around?)
Harvard Gazette Tennessee William's undervalued play The Night of the Iguana (we've discussed the movie version here before) is coming to the A.R.T. with an all star cast that includes James Earl Jones, Dana Delany, Amanda Plummer and Bill Heck

Politics
The Daily Beast a must read -- FADA, a bill full or rhetorical BS about "freedom of religion" which currently has the support of the new President and Congress will undoubtedly make life very difficult and less safe for whole swaths of people in the USA including unmarried women, unmarried straight couples, and especially LGBT people, married or otherwise. It's one of the most vile pro-discriminations laws ever proposed and its probably going to pass. RESIST.
NYT The Syrian subjects of two documentary shorts will be attending the Oscar despite the recent problems with T****'s travel ban
Boy Culture "tiny T****" is a new meme. Good photoshopping skills here whoever made these
Medium has the first semi-believable positive take (much needed even if its best possible case scenario) on what might happen to the world following the T**** debacle
The Daily Beast remember when Out magazine got a ton of shit for normalizing racist / transphobic / nazi gay Milo Yiannopoulos? Now Bill Maher has done it too, coddling him on Real Time as he spewed more vile shit about the LGBT community and liberals. When will the media ever learn? Here's the best possible tweet about that show...

That bit of Arrival trivia is fun and very interesting.

I'm a fan of Michelle Rodriguez. Good on her.

Bill Maher is and always has been a moron. I'm shocked anyone would watch his terrible show.

I guess my wife and I are morons because we really like his show. Although his hatred for Trump is starting to get even a little much us even.

Looking forward to all the upcoming series. Great that women are forging ahead. Thanks to Streep's continued popularity in the 2000's Anxious for her miniseries The Nix to show up on TV😎😎😎

Wow, that is an impressive list of potential Limited Series Actress nominees. I am hoping that the adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale is worthwhile and Elisabeth Moss is in the running.

Anyone interested in the Cunana-Versace story should check out the strange, salacious and speculative book "Three Month Fever" by Gary Indiana.

ScarJo and Sam Jackson are correct. Milo and Maher are so wrong.

Max -- i watch Maher's show sometimes too. I can usually look past his condescending attitude but this is a bridge too far, to cozy up to this nazi guy and not call him out on his shit.

Paul -- lol. I love it when ppl like Scarjo are willing to say that but they always get such shit for it in the media. My governing philosophy is "do whatever works for you and your partner/partners and mind your own business when it comes to other people and their partner/partners."

Nat--it's the pooh-pooh-snicker-snicker prude thing when it comes to sex and sexuality.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

@Nathaniel

You take my general comment about Maher and stretch it all out of shape!!

I have not even seen the particular show you refer to So give it a rest. I am NOT a Nazi lover!

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMax

@ Paul Outlaw

Because you seem to know everything. Besides going overboard sometimes, what do you disagree with Maher about?? ( Remember I have yet to see this week's show )

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMax

@ Max

I don't know everything. But I greatly disagree with Maher about Milo.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

@Psul

I probably will, too. We live in California and had tons of news about Berkeley. To assume my beliefs ( as NAT did ) is wrong. End of subject.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMax

I like Maher for being able to question religion, talk up socialism and Bernie, and criticize the Pentagon and the warfare state, but he's been totally fooled into buying this idea that Republicans are under siege and are victims of PC culture who can't get their message out. Their message is the message of capital and corporate power, which is the dominant message in this society. They shouldn't be able to portray themselves as victims because they get criticized.

Max - I don't think nat said anything bad about you at all. Re-read his posts. In fact he agreed with you that he'll watch the show sometimes too but he's pissed off about this recent interview. No assumptions or rudeness directed ur way at all

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterHuh

What Marsha Mason said.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Huh I hope you are right. I hate words on paper as opposed to out loud. Sometimes it is easy to misunderstand tone or context.

I hate much in politics and am totally in disagreement with what Milo preaches.. It filled our newspapers for days. I feel he may be trying to get his 15 minutes of fame.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMax

The Maher-Milo interview was a low moment for humanity. Milo insulting gays, women and whoever else, and Maher "jokingly" calling him a fag. When you go down a certain dark path, you will get lost.

February 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJono

Ugh who is Milo and why is he famous? I've been asking that for the past year and still haven't gotten any answers.
