21 Days Until Oscars: Oscar's Perennial Bridesmaids

Kevin O'Connell, 21 nominations to date21 days until Oscar! Since 21 is the magic number of the day we must note that two contenders this year, Andy Nelson and Kevin O'Connell, competing against each other in Sound Mixing, are both on their 21st nomination. (Take that Meryl with your 20!) Nelson, who seems likely to win for La La Land has already won two Oscars for Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Les Misérables (2012). O'Connell is still waiting for that elusive win. He must be frustrated and his tux must be well worn by now.

Thomas Newman scored and Roger Deakins did the cinematography for my all-time favourite film, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Really hope they win an Oscar soon. Newman's score for FINDING NEMO might be my favourite of all film scores.

Is Amy winning in a few years or has Oscar finished with her or did the industry notice the snub and mark there diary to correct it in the future.

If Amy has a prestige picture next year, I can see the Academy deciding it's time and over compensating for snubbing her this year and handing her the award, even if it's not necessarily the best performance (a la Kate Winslet).

If Kevin O'Connell really wants to win that Oscar. Then he needs to stop working with no-talent hacks like Michael Bay and McG.

Amy Adams should continue getting "snubbed" until she can earns a win worthy nomination.

1-4 will definitely get Oscars someday (even if Honorary); 5 and 6 are iffy at best; the Andersons (7) are a good bet, but not the rest; and Amy Adams is the only 8 likely to win (unless she really is Deborah Kerr, in which case Honorary).

Kenneth Branagh has never won, despite 5 nominations in 5 DIFFERENT categories.

Best Director, Best Actor, Best Live Action Short Film, Best Screenplay Adaptation and Best Supporting Actor.

I can't tell if the Academy is finally done with Amy, or is about to give her a trophy. It literally could go either way. Hmm.

I was JUST talking on another post about how I'll never get over the fact that Richard Linklater lost EVERY Boyhood award to Birdman. Unacceptable. I thought it was a more unique film, and much a more impressive production from both a producer and directorial point. Birdman could've gotten Screenplay and that would've been good.

I love Thomas Newman's work (though I haven't seen Passengers, and wonder if he really deserves that nomination). He could have easily won for Revolutionary Road, and even his Skyfall soundtrack was a worthy contender that year.

Also, speaking of Glenn Close, I have this weird feeling that she's doing Sunset Boulevard on Broadway again as a limited engagement since La La Land is doing so well and she's trying to get the movie version of it made and then maybe she can finally get her Oscar. lol

I'm afraid Glenn Close may not win anymore much as I think she deserves the Oscar for Dangerous Liaisons and The World According to Garp; and for non-nominated films such as Reversal of Fortune and The House of the Spirits. Maybe if Sunset Boulevard is filmed someday.

Surprised that both Andersons (Wes & Paul Thomas) have not won yet. Not that an Oscar statuette is validation for the creation of timeless cinema, but still...

Be optimistic people. Amy will get her Oscar soon. And I'm still holding out hope for Glenn, Annette, Sigourney, Albert and Kenneth.

Phillip, Sunset Blvd was staged in London last year as a test run for the broadway show, way before the La La Land hype began :)

I understand reviving it for the West End since it hadn't been there, but the brief Bway revival seems like she wants to try and get the film version going, but I could be thinking about it too hard lol

As long as Adams keeps getting these types of roles, she'll continue to be in the running. But it's no guarantee. Great actresses like Laura Linney, Glenn Close, Miranda Richardson, and a host of others just found their great parts suddenly dry up (might've had something to do with being female and over 40). Same with Julianne Moore, though she made a comeback that came to fruition.

Regarding your post above, Kevin O'Connell has not worked with Michael Bay in 10 years and has never worked with McG. Per your post I am guessing this means he REALLY wants to win.
