Sandy Powell's take on "Mary Poppins"

It's still 661 days until everyone's favorite supercalifragilisticexpialadocious singing nanny returns! It's a little early then to get an image from her movie but here we are...

Mary Poppins Returns starring Emily Blunt opens Christmas Day 2018 which is long enough away that you shouldn't hold your breath or anything. Let's worry about Christmas 2017 first, you know?

That hat is everything. In case you're wondering the costume designer is none other than the goddess herself, Sandy Powell. Her fourth Oscar will eventually come but for which movie? Here's what's up next for the superstar designer:

Oakes Fegley (from Pete's Dragon) and Julianne Moore in WONDERSTRUCK (2017)

  • Todd Haynes' two time frames story Wonderstruck (2017)
  • John Cameron Mitchell's aliens & punk rockers movie How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017)
  • Rob Marshall's Disney musical Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
  • Yorgos Lanthimos' follow up to The Lobster which is called The Favourite (2018)

After that who knows but it's safe to guess another Martin Scorsese movie since he doesn't often make movies without her (Silence being a rare exception)

Ah! Sandy did the Mary Poppins costumes? I love it even more. She's a goddess, and it'd be a crime if she never wins for her work with Haynes. Let her year be this year!

I am no fan of Mary Poppins, but am strangely looking forward to this. I suspect it won't be as unwatchably twee as the original and hopefully no terrible accents and better songs.

I didn't know that! First good news related to that project.

Can Emily finally get her way way overdue Oscar nomination in 2018.

That hat. That bag. Spectacular

I'm actually excited about all of those films mentioned, though, like you said, its kind of crazy to get teases for a movie that's a little less than two years away.

Also, I think The Killing of a Sacred Deer (with Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman) is Lanthimos' follow-up to The Lobster, seeing as they're already done filming that one.

Love the still, and the talent involved. But it will take a LOT to convince me that a new Mary Poppins film is a good thing. (Ditto Beauty & the Beast.)

That Mary Poppins costume makes me want to see the rest of the film
