2010 I Am Love and Toy Story 3 both open in US theaters. When it rains it pours sometimes with quality at the movies (sadly we also get droughts). The former, an Italian masterpiece starring Tilda Swinton as a foreign trophy wife caught up in an affair and family drama, was the Best Film of the Year (according to yours truly) and the latter a Best Picture nominee and colossal hit for Pixar. Sadly they're sullying its legacy with a sequel even though it reached such a perfect circle-of-life conclusion. Sometimes you need to let perfect things go.

1971 Kerry Butler born. She's one of Broadway's best but most weirdly underutilized. If you've been lucky enough to see her as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, the Amy Adams role in the musical adaptation of Catch Me If You Can or especially for her hilarious Tony nominated role as Kira in Xanadu you'll already be in love with her.
In her honor today: get lost in YouTube or Spotify clips of her work and pray that she gets another big Broadway gig soon. Seriously, WHAT is the hold up with a new show? She's one of music theater's best.
1952 Isabella Rossellini born. Her mother, Ingrid Bergman, was one of the greatest movie stars of all time. She wisely never tried to be her but has proved her own unique essential showbiz creature with an eclectic filmography, game performances, amusing collaborations (she's in Madonna's "Sex" book), memorable romances (David Lynch) and odd side projects like "Green Porno" investigating the sex lives of animals.
In her honor today: Imagine the mating rituals of weird sea creatures, insects, or even David Lynch & Isabella Rossellini herself back in the day.
1815 Napoleon loses the Battle of Waterloo. One hundred and fifty-nine years later ABBA writes a glorious pop song about it that wins Eurovision in 1974, launching them to international superstardom.

I think my favorite Isabella Rossellini project is "The Saddest Music in the World," wherein she has glass legs filled with beer.
I was really wary of Toy Story 3, but it turned out great, so I can't immediately write off the fourth entry.

It's always funny to me which random celebrities are born on the exact same date. Isabella Rossellini and Carol Kane? OK! Roger Ebert and Paul McCartney? Sure, why not!

Waterloo is going to be in my memory forever because of Mad Men. It's the name of the episode where Bert dies, the man walk on moon, Peggy has her best pitch and a musical number lets Don devastated!

I Am Love was my least favourite film of 2010, but the ending is certainly memorable.
Toy Story 3: Again, gotta go with the ending
And I Am Love has the supreme luck of roping contemporary composer non pareil John Adams to use his 'greatest hits' to score the film -- I Am Love is perfection in every way.
Has anyone seen Rossellini in "Cousins" with Ted Danson? A romantic comedy/drama starring the two of them shouldn't work on paper but it's actually quite good, if I remember correctly.
