So Many Disney Princesses!

Chris here. D23 (basically Disney's own version of Comic Con) is underway and there have been quite a few delightful things to emerge - a gorgeous trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, tidbits on The Last Jedi, and early footage of Coco and the next Avengers gathering...

But one moment that had me gay gasping: in a presentation for next year's Wreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet, one clip featured cameos from a whole bunch of Disney princesses. Don't forget that one Ralph's final moments had Sarah Silverman's bubbly Vanellope declared a princess herself.

But the panel didn't just bring out Silverman, they brought out as many Disney princesses as they could fit on the stage. When was the last time we got so many in one place? Of the living Disney princesses, the few that were missing included Idina Menzel's Elsa and Ming-na Wen's Mulan (and a singing counterpart or two). We always love and actress photo call, voice over or otherwise!

Roll call (L to R): Paige O'Hara (Belle), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Auli'i Cravalho (Moana), Silverman, Kristen Bell (Anna), Kelly MacDonald (Merida), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), and Jodi Benson (Ariel). Tag yourself: I'm Lea Salonga, double heard but unseen!

It's a gimmick certainly, but I DON'T CARE. Disney, manipulate me all you want. I love this.

This gave me nothing. Oprah and some unknown children seems like a recipe for movie disaster.

Man, how come Michael Pena always gets these bit parts?! At least his face popped up (however briefly)

I'm sure he'll make the most of his screen time, regardless.

Are we completely ignoring that trailer? I want to hear Nathaniel's opinion! :)

The Wrinkle in Time trailer looks lush, sure, but no different in lushness than the Eyesore in Wonderland so hated by Nathaniel. Visual palette seems very closely tied to other Disney fantasies, which I'm fine with, but...

If this had been just about ANY other director, that would have been the first complaint filed by Film Experience.

I have nothing against Ms. DuVernay, and the casting is knockout fantastic to me, but as with Wonder Woman's release, a film that shares more aesthetics than not with previous films in a similar genre receiving less criticism and more praise strikes me as questionably disingenuous.

Black Panther, for my money, has shown in its teaser more visual panache and style than this.

Just wanted to throw my two cents out there before the orgasms descend. I think Ms. DuVernay has earned the right to be judged by her true talents and not just the Disney-sanctified ones.
