I’m nervous.. too much Darkest Hour so far, no Get Out at all.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterParanoid Android

Yikes, so far no Ladybird, Get Out, or CMBYN?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterTravis

GET OUT snubbed in editing. so pissed.

January 23, 2018 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Victoria & Abdul fans out there.... SMH

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

woah, no mcdonagh in director!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterCharles O

also, omg love tiffany with all my heart

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterCharles O

GRETA GERWIG!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAmandaBuffamonteezi

No disrespect to Tiffany, but they should have someone who can pronounce names to announce these nominations.... That was horrendous

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

Watching Tiffany react to Andy reading those supporting actresses...how heartbreaking.

Director was a great emotional high--Peele! Gerwig! No McDonagh!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commentercatbaskets

Woo, Peele and Gerwig made it in Best Director (I was so worried) ; Washington is a surprise and the Academy sure loves to nominate Octavia Spencer don't they?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterRami

Franco misses out, probably benefited Kaluuya.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterReady

You guys! These were pretty good! Supporting Actoe is a mess and WTF Denzel? But, pretty good. Unexpected love for Phantom Thread and Darkest Hour, which I guess I have to see now.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterBD

I had a feeling Phantom Thread was going to do better at the Oscars than at the precursors due to its late rollout. It's been doing surprisingly well at the box office, and, for such a strange movie, people really seem to like it.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterchasgoose

Phantom Thread in Picture and Director is the biggest surprise by far. 6 nominations total for it. Did not see that coming!

And no McDonagh in Best Director probably confirms Shape of Water is winning Best Picture, right?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterEdwin

Nailed it in several, Nathaniel! Congratulations!

sad for Armie and Michael, Hanks, Hunter, several others.

BUT we got some surprises, and 3BB doesn't have a lock just yet.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterforever1267

Christopher Plummer took Armie Hammer's spot :-(

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterME

So happy for Mary J. Blige’s two nominations, and for CMBYN not getting completely shut out. Denzel Washington was a nice surprise, as was MUDBOUND in Adapted Screenplay.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterGeorge P

David, I found Haddish totally funny and charming .....

I am so happy Manville got a nod too, she was so excellent in Phantom Thread

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterRami

Denzel benefitted from Franco.
Shape of water has to be the frontrunner at this juncture since it missed none of its expected nominations.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterZo

I guess Denzel's nomination was also a bit of an apology for last year.

Loved Gerwig and Peele. Also Kaluuya.

Never bet against Streep. Never.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Two time Oscar nominee Mary J Blige everyone!!!!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterRami

Also, is Kobe Bryant really an Academy Award nominee?!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterGeorge P

LOVED the short clips for the technical categories!

Congrats to Greta Gerwig with her Best Director nod!

Not pleased with Streep and Washington nominated again. Chastain, Gyllenhaal, Franco, Bale are better choices

Congrats Saoirse Ronan with her 3rd nom at the age of 23

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

Ooof. I loved that invited Haddish to announce the nominees, but that was rough.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Did Ronan just beat Lawrence's record of youngest with three nominations?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Meryl Streep- 21 Oscar nominations!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

So, first woman nominated in cinematography, right?? That's huge!! And Sufjan Stevens is a nominee!! Sad for Florida Project not doing better than I hoped.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterEli

@Rami you mean they love Meryl Streep don't they.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterNikki

Jamie-

That is a record I don't see anyone breaking for centuries ;-)

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Haddosh, as lovely as she is, was horrendously bad.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Love the support for Phantom Thread! I knew Manville would sneak in (at Hunter's expense?). Very deserved nom for Jonny Greewood. I could see PTA sneaking to the win!!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterjcon

Surprised BEAUTY & THE BEAST didn't show in Original Song category!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterUnidas

Denzel is officially the male Streep. He can never be written off, and I think he's coming for Jack Nicholson's nomination record.

And the female Streep herself got in.LOL!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterlonny

Oh, and poor Jane! I mean, what was that about???

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterEli

Franco has nobody but himself to blame for that snub. Last slot came down to Hanks and Washington methinks possibly gyllenhall.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterZo

Tiffany Haddish was perfect.

Love the love for Phantom Thread.

vvvvvvv excited about Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig (and PTA and Christopher Nolan, and what the heck I v much enjoyed Shape of Water so GDT too.) <-- category with the least problems.

I did not love her performance but I love her in general, so very glad that MJB is a double nominee. It's a good thing.

Pouring one out for Holly Hunter, Sean Baker, and Michael Stuhbarg. I also had some last minute hope that Tiffany would squeak through, but alas.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterG

Octavia Spencer better stay in her lane and not fight the period piece typecasting.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

Washington now has 8 Oscar nominations and 0 Bafta nominations. Poor Franco. He was robbed! As was Michael Stuhlbarg, Holly Hunter and Luca Guadagnino. Very surprised that Sufjan Stevens got the nod. Yeah!

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterIshmael

Omg Tiffany - LOVE her to death, but bless her that was atrocious. I sort of felt sorry for those dozens of people who had their names butchered by her.

That best director lineup is terrific.

I'm pleased with these nominations, but I just wish Call Me By Your Name had done better - I miss seeing Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg's names.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

No disrespect to Meryl but super sad Jessica Chastain was overlooked again!!! :(

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterPatrick

Sad that IN A HEARTBEAT was snubbed. : ( but happy CMBYN didn't. Though love for Stuhlbarg would have been nice. Luca is nominated as a producer at least.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

Notable: Phantom Thread getting the bubble nom for Manville and the slightly unexpected noms in Picture and Director, but somehow still missing with the writers who nominated him for frickin' Inherent Vice.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJJ

Aaron- Yeah really. Daniel Kaluuya is her acting peer. How can you not even know how to say his name?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterUnidas

Not bad for the Academy. Pleased by the PHANTOM THREAD love. It could really have gone either way - I think you either really dig that movie or have the reaction: wtf was that? I was in the former category, my husband (and other folks I've talked to who've seen it) the latter.

MUDBOUND did better than I thought it would.

Never count Denzel out.

Alas for Holly Hunter and Ray Romano - I thought the former, at least, had a shot, but nope.

Otherwise, no huge surprises.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterlylee

Thought game: if Haddish had been white and mangled non-anglo names as badly as she did, would reaction have been the same? Or is part of willingness to entertain the idea that she was wonderful as an announcer predicated on stereotypical thinking that she couldn't have been expected to know how to read and pronounce the names? I thought she resorted to "cuteness" as a crutch and found it less than appealing.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDavide

So happy for sally, i was worried she would become this years amy adams. holy hunter got snubbed. Also Denis villeneuve.

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterArghavan

Christopher Plummer's 2010s career resurgence has been astounding (and unprecedented?)

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Is TIMOTHEE CHALAMET now the youngest lead actor nominee ever?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterGarrison

Not dissing on Haddish, but the Academy really is a shitshow sometimes -- the envelope last year and they can't remember/bother to get their announcers in rehearsal to practice all the possible names? Really?

January 23, 2018 | Unregistered Commentermikey67

Sad tgat Hong Chau missed out. Otherwise pretty happy. Agnes Varda for the win!
