Stage Diversions
• EW Tom Hiddleston will star in a revival of Harold Pinter's 70s classic Betrayal in the West End in the spring
• Playbill Caroline or Change returns to NYC at the Astoria Performing Arts Center next summer. I saw their production of Follies last season and it was really strong so I have high hopes that they'll do this great musical justice. I still think if they ever make this into a movie, whoever plays Caroline will win the Oscar.
• Playbill Broadway grosses for the week: New shows Network with Bryan Cranston and Tatiana Maslany and To Kill a Mockingbird with Jeff Daniels are already hits, playing to 100% capacity. The emptiest houses are unfortunately for the Go-Gos musical Head Over Heels (which we loved but which has been struggling to find its audience). Head Over Heels will be one of the Thanksgiving performances at the Macy's Day Parade so we'll see if that helps get them through the holidays.

I always find youre kinda hyperbolic when referring to RT scores. A percentage in the 50s is typically average. “Brutal” is a bit of an overstatement, no?
I agree with everything Amanda Hess writes in "The End of Endings". It's like living in a bad dream, everything over and over again. Also, I thought I was a devoted Potterhead, but no way I'm going to this latest "episode" of Fantastic Beasts".
I have no interest in seeing Crimes of Grindelwald either. Some said that J.K. Rowling just went George Lucas on everyone. That is not good.

Is Crimes the lowest rated movie in the Potter franchise?
kris01: Yeah, when I think "Brutal" reviews, I think one of two things. Either: 1. Less than 30% period (under this standard, BvS got brutal reviews) or 2. A 40% or higher drop from original to sequel. Going from 87% to 47% is definitely brutal. Going from 74% to 47% isn't good, but isn't quite "brutal."
Love how straightforward SJP is in that interview. “I needed a paycheck, that’s what drew me to the role.” I hear ya, sis.

I LOOOOVE The Family Stone. It's such a great Christmas movie and very rewatchable. Also, the trio of Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Parker could not have been more of it's time:
1) Parker's being a major star having just finished SATC - this being her first role after the show's end.
2) Keaton, established star reaching legendary status, who just proved her bankability with Something's Gotta Give two Holiday seasons earlier
3) McAdams, the breakout star of 2004, this being her first role after the combo of The Notebook and Mean Girls.
Ooh. Caroline, or Change as a film? Who would you cast? Better not be Jennifer Hudson or Zendaya cuz they can’t act.
Also, that link took me to another article about Renee Fleming as Georgia O’Keeffe at Tanglewood next summer so now I’m super excited!

Has the world caught on yet that Bryan Cranston is not a great actor? He overdoes everything.
I love Cynthia Erivo as much as the next person, but I'm the type of guy who prefers to spread the wealth, and considering she'll probably reprise her role as "Celie" in the Color Purple film adaptation, I'd vote for another actress to headline Caroline, or Change -- particularly someone more age appropriate.
The first person who comes to mind is Queen Latifah -- another obvious choice, but given the right director and a serious commitment to the material, I think she has it in her to deliver the kind of performance the role requires. R&B singer Jill Scott and actress Danielle Brooks (also too young at the moment but could work in another 10 years or so) seem like fine choices as well.

I wonder why there hasn't been a mention (at least I haven't seen one) about Michael Douglas' The Kominsky Method. Maybe because I'm a man over 65, but so much of this funny series rings true, and I don't think I've seen anything near that in the past.
