Chris Gives Thanks!!
Team Experience members were invited to give thanks this week so you'll be hearing from a few of us. Here's Chris Feil...
Thank you love, thank you life, thank you faithful Film Experience readers!
2018 has been a busy year for yours truly! Between being TFE's resident soundtrack obsessive, starting a podcast, and having another go at TIFF, it's nice to indulge in a little bit of reflection on what this year has meant to me cinematically. As always, I'm grateful to our benevolent host Nathaniel for allowing me to share my voice with you all and my fellow genius cowriters here at TFE. In a terrifying world, our little corner of the internet is a salve. But as for the movies, I am most thankful for...
• "[staccato piano keys] ... I'm alone in my HOUSE!"
• Nicholas Britell's majestic If Beale Street Could Talk score. The rare beast that feels inextricable from its images, forever tied together in my brain.
• Janelle Monáe's Dirty Computer in general, but specifically "Pynk" in particular. Listen, if folks are allowed to put Twin Peaks on their best films of the century lists, I can put a music video in mine...
• Diablo Cody for Tully's holistic dialogue between our past and current selves.
• Marielle Heller for understanding the dimensions of queer loneliness in Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
• "Hearts Beat Loud" from Hearts Beat Loud.
• Just about everything to do with Madeline's Madeline - Helena Howard's cascades of fire; Molly Parker's knowing, conflicted exploitave tactics; Josephine Decker's bucking of formula; that seismic finale.
• The perfect final shot in Tamara Jenkins' Private Life. The perfect midpoint shot in Burning.
• Shoplifters and Support the Girls for hugging me, Widows and Wildlife for punching me, Hereditary and Annihilation for staring me down.
• Juliette Binoche on Instagram.
• Markos vs. Blanc jokes.
• Ruth E. Carter's imagination, precision, and expertise - her Costume Design Oscar for Black Panther should be rightfully the safest lock.

I didn't like "Madeline's Madeline" that much, but Molly Parker was amazing.
Thankful for your always illuminating, erudite Soundtracking column!
So jealous you got to see Ruth E. Carter’s costumes in person! Each one is a feast for the eyes.
hear hear on Juliette's instagram. it's so idiosyncractic and wonderful.
also amen on what you said about TULLY
Yes to the Tully dialogue,if we could have a conversation with our 21 yr old self what would we say to Us?
These thanks posts are getting ridiculous. It’s blantantly clear that this website is discriminatory against non gorgeous writers <3 <3
Parched: I second that!
Chris thank you for your mention of "Tully" - one of the weirder movies this year, and a movie I loved, and one I saw with a friend who has now moved away and my movie diet is poorer. <---This sentence is poorly written.

hugs to you for the Cotillard-inspired open!
Chris, thanks for mentioning Private Life. I was bowled over by this movie! Both leads were terrific, and the movie grabbed a hold of me and wouldn't let go until it was over.
Thanks, Chris, for your addictive podcast. Can't say I have the same esteem for Madeline's Madeline, but I thought Molly Parker was gorgeously unhinged. How she didn't get an Indie Spirit nomination is a mystery! C'est la vie!
