T'weetweek, T'Challa!

a semi weekly collection for those w/ or w/out twitter curated by Nathaniel R

After the jump little jewel tweets on Saoirse Ronan, ASL in film, Russell Crowe on his next film, and Jessica Chastain relating to Lady Bird. But first Black Panther...

Black Panther opens on February 16th but the first rush of press have already seen it (I'm going today!) and so for the first act of this past week's tweet collection, some of the most memorable reactions to it.

and moving away from that fictional African country for other cultural commentary...

Ava Duvernay’s comment is interesting since she rejected directing Black Panther, I wonder if they ever dicussed about that...

Lol at that humble brag by Crowe. Geez, way to make the rest of us feel bad...

Caroline Framke: Saoirse could really play Meryl, but I don't think she will break her record. However,what I'd like the most would be the two of them making a film together.

I agree that Saoirse won't break Meryl's record (it will be a long time before anyone does, maybe ever). But let's not forget Saoirse has her own record - fastest to three nominations!

Marvel's stipulations were too restrictive for her. Also, the material was less like her personal artistic sensibilities. I have an uncomfortable feeling A Winkle In Time will be a commercial failure.

@Suzanne- I think Jennifer Lawrence holds this record. If she gets nominated for Mary Queen of Scots next year she might be first to reach four. Jennifer Lawrence currently holds that record too. I think Jennifer Jones is second place.

@3rtful,

I agree, I honestly don't think it looks great- Wrinkle In Time, but I am hoping for the best.

Nikki: /3rtful's not really saying that it looks like a bad movie, though, just that it looks too alienating to be a major hit. Not sure I necessarily agree it absolutely won't be financially successful (if The BFG (a Roald Dahl/Steven Spielberg match) can flop...anything can happen), but if it does, it should be viewed as a surprise.

Pro Football has plenty of gay fans and yes I do agree about the male eye candy in "Black Panther"

I deja vu'd Streep all over Vicky Krieps' performance in 'Phantom Thread'.

@suzanne Lawrence got 4 noms in 6 years. It took Ronan 10 years to get to 3 noms.
