Reason No "355" to Love Jessica Chastain

by Nathaniel R

If the future really is female as protest signs and t-shirts so often prophesy, the movies are going to be getting sooo good. This just in: Jessica Chastain's production company Freckle Films is mounting a film called 355 which is a spy thriller based on an idea by and starring Chastain herself. Her co-stars will be Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, and Lupita Nyong'o. Excuse us while we faint...

It's like Jessica Chastain is inside our brains and knows which  actresses we want to see in things and also knows that we're upset that the forthcoming Oceans 8 didn't have room for EVERY actress in the universe to get involved in secretive high-stakes shenanigans. Obviously Chastain, Cruz, and Cotillard are in demand and would be cast in things without Chastain's guiding hand and feminist impulses but Bingbing and Nyong'o?!? In the same film! When both are so perpetually and bizarrely underused by Hollywood despite being so camera friendly with their combinations of riveting screen presence, real acting talent, and obvious inestimable beauty?!? We're in. And also so excited to see this.

We'd list 355 reasons why we're excited but we just dont have the time today though it's not for lack of reasons available.

The film is about five women, initially at odds, who band together to stop a global organization bent on teetering the world into chaos. It will be directed by newish helmer Simon Kinberg (X-Men Dark Phoenix)  from a script by Theresa Rebeck. Yes that Theresa Rebeck. The one who created "Smash" on television. Jessica Chastain really is inside our heads. Or maybe just reading our tweets but we love her for this.

I just don't understand how Simon Kinberg got to direct this.

YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS. I was so the fuck sold with Chastain's tweet yesterday, but reading the plot description made me even more excited!

This explains the shift in the gay force I felt earlier today.

I'm annoyed it isn't a female director, but we can't have everything I suppose!

I'm convinced Weinstein blacklisted Nyong'o - how else do you explain the explosion of roles since he went down? Yes Black Panther would account for some - but I believe she is now attached to at least four live-action roles coming up including this, Killers, The Amazon movie with Viola and Americanah? Makes you wonder!

Also YES to Marion - she's been far too quiet of late.

The Boy From -- maybe Chastain loved working with him on The Martian? we haven't even seen his first directorial effort yet so perhaps he'll surprise us.

The Pig did not sabotage Lu's career systemic racism did. But grateful she's getting along these days doing whatever it takes to maintain her industry viability.

That cast is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Get off the racist train... you are totally monotonous now. People like you are why there is racism and reverse racism!!!

Oh yes, I loove this idea!!!

Yay I’m excited

Re: Lupita, I adored her in10 years a slave, she was riveting but found her kinda bland (though stunningly beautiful) in Black Panther. I generally need two very good performances before I call one amazing (for all I know she’s sucking bad at her auditions) so she still hasn’t passed that test for me but I’m eager to see what she does next

Hope she lives up to the promise!

Jessica Chastain is totally one of the commentators on this website! Dunh dunh DUNH!!!!!

(*total speculation. I don't know. It's not me, I know that.*)

Since Simon Kinberg is directing Chastain in the new X-Men movie (Jennifer Lawrence is also singing his praises and has stated that his direction is the only reason she agreed to make the movie) maybe it is a spin off of X-Men somehow? Fan Binbing already played Blink (best new addition to the series in my opinion) so maybe they all have superpowers? Black Panther is in the Marvel X-Men comic universe. What superheroes would Cotillard and Cruz play? Perhaps that is a question for a different post altogether.

Thank you for acknowledging my great mind and fearless instincts.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJessica Chastain

Not Marvel, but Cotillard was part of DC Universe.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterLeon

I’m crushed everytime I realized that several high-profile projects Lupita attached to NEVER really come to fruition. They’re all stuck in development hell.

Americanah with David Oyelowo
Amblin’s Intelligent Life from the script by Colin Trevorrow. Ava DuVarney once attached to direct.
Untitled Heist Film originated from Twitter sensation with Rihanna. Ava to direct.
Charlie’s Angels reboot with Kristen Stewart.

I hope Black Panther success gives her the boost and these projects (and The Woman King with Viola Davis) find their way to screen.

Wow even in 2018 people still refuse to believe that systematic racism is a thing. Jeez.

As for this project, sounds promising.

Huj, I would recommend Queen of Katwe. She's excellent in it.

Chastain is a real force for good in the world.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Why was she not nominated for Molly's Game? Terrible snub.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Nice to hear fresh news from Jessica Chastain. But is this going to be another a 'cold calculated woman on her way to success' role? She's great at it but haven't we seen that enough? Please Jessica, delight us with another comedic role just like when we first had a crush on you.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJorge

Jessica Chastain IS inside my brain also. She takes a half formed musing and turns it into a complete idea. She makes me feel smarter and more alive. So of course I love her.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered Commenteradri

Jessica Chastain, I know you read this website, you're doing amazing sweetie.

May 3, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterArlo

@grrr - that is an utterly ridiculous thing to say.
