Showbiz History: Maya Rudolph, Presumed Innocent, and Lindsay's Last

10 random things that happened on this day in showbiz history

1940 Bugs Bunny and his catch phrase "What's up doc?" make their official debut in "A Wild Hare" which is nominated for the short film Oscar.

1969 TV wunderkind Bryan Fuller is born in Idaho. We will always love him for Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls

Maya Rudolph, Prince, Bob Hope, Lindsay Lohan and more after the jump...

1972 Maya Rudolph is born in Florida. Everyone loves her. She's perfect. She's amazing in all the ways -- including rock star realness -- but she has yet to find that signature role in the movies. What gives, comedy and/or musical comedy directors?

1979 The Amityville Horror opens in movie theaters, becoming the second biggest hit of its year (after Kramer vs Kramer). James Brolin and Margot Kidder starred in the horror hit.

1984 Purple Rain starring Prince hits movie theaters. It will become a big hit and the soundtrack sells over 13 million copies in the US alone. Some estimates say 25 million worldwide making it one of the biggest soundtracks of all time (behind The Bodyguard and Saturday Night Fever). It will also inspire thousands of covers and musicians including Maya Rudolph's PRINCEss band featured above.

1990 Presumed Innocent, based on an enormous bestselling legal thriller at the time, opens in movie theaters. The film stars Harrison Ford but Bonnie Bedelia steals the show as his wife (and look at little baby Jesse Bradford playing their son in the pic above!). Later she's denied an Oscar nomination but it was an ultra-competitive year in Best Supporting Actress

2003 Bob Hope, one of America's favorite celebrities and 18 time (!) Oscar host, died on this day. He had lived to be 100 years old!

2001 Tim Burton's misbegotten remake of Planet of the Apes (why?!) debuts in movie theaters to huge numbers (oh yeah, that's why)

2007 Lindsay Lohan stars in Sony Pictures I Know Who Killed Me, new in theaters. It proves to be her last headlining role released by one of the major studios.

2018 TODAY! Mission: Impossible - Fallout and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies open in movie theaters while Blindspotting and Eighth Grade both hits in very limited release add lots of screens, expanding into new cities.

Fun fact: Maya Rudolph's mother is Minnie Riperton, the singer of 70's hit "Lovin' You". The song is actually a way for Minnie to calm little Maya down when her husband was gone.

Oh Nat you brought up the unbelievable Bedelia snub.

Maya Rudolph is a goddess.

Bonnie Bedelia starred with the delicious Michael Brandon in Diane Keaton's movie debut Lovers and Other Strangers. Great cast. Oscar winner for the Carpenters' hit For All We Know.

Maya has starred in auteur fare (Away We Go), blockbusters (Bridesmaids), *and* hit shows/performance showcases (SNL, etc.), and *still* Hollywood can’t give her the time of day? Psh, this is when PTA needs to write a part for her that shows ‘em what’s what,

Bonnie, sister of Kit Culkin, aunt of Macaulay, Kieran and Rory, is in the Kate Nelligan camp of fine actresses largely wasted by film directors who failed to capitalize on their acting gifts. Their/our loss.

It’s amazing that Lindsay managed to tank her leading lady career in only three years (2004-07). What the actual fuck, girl?

I Know Who Killed Her Career.

Lindsay.

Without Bugs Bunny we would never have Barbra Streisand. Think about it!

I wonder if Anderson has reluctance to write for his partner. Artists are messy and he likely wants to keep the relationship healthy by having some distance between them professionally.

When I first saw this post, I thought that Maya Rudolph was on trial.

Reason Number 20492 that we know the Emmys are fucked up and can't be fixed - Maya Rudolph wasn't even nominated for best actress in a comedy for playing Dionne Warwick in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Glenn -- i can't. even the guest actor categories are hopeless when they're such a great idea in theory.

David S -- lOL. Guilty of being awesome.

/3rtful -- i agree. i bet that's it.

Mareko -- right? it's crazy to look back on now. Linday Lohan had such a short run and so much talent and just threw it away :(
