The Link With Two Brains
• Vulture Kathleen Turner in conversation, dishing on Burt Reynolds, William Hurt, Eileen Atkins and more. I had no idea that she didn't like Elizabeth Taylor! That's insane but Turner is always good for a blurb. So frank and funny.
• Parade 10 Steve Martin quotes to brighten your day on his birthday
• Variety Ruby Rose is the latest actress to quit her social media after online trolling. This time a bizarre she's not gay enough to play a gay character or some nonsense (even though she's been out for years!). When will the madness end and why do we live in such a mean world?
• MNPP the trailer to Gaspar Noe's latest provocation, Climax
• Slate a round up of all the shark jokes people made while reporting on The Meg
• Film School Rejects Netflix's original film slate for the last few months of this year. It's stacked.
• Variety an update of sorts on that Fan Bingbing rumor we told you about. Is China banning her from acting for 3 years?
• Variety should the Emmys have even more categories? Acting categories too often combine very disparate skills.
• /Film Neill Blomkamp (District 9) is directing a sequel to Robocop, ignoring the other sequels apparently, and he wants Peter Weller to return as star.
• Variety Instant Family, a comedy starring Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg moved up from 2019 to a November bow this year
• i09 Jeff Goldblum jigsaw puzzles!
• Coming Soon Train to Busan, the Korean zombie hit, is getting a sequel

It's another teaser for Matthew Weiner's new series The Romanoffs. I'm soooo excited for this because I love Weiner AND I have no idea what to expect really even after watching this. Looks like the kind of show that might have instant takes which prove incredibly wrongheaded once you see the show develop.

I really think the biggest news of the week, maybe the year, is the discovery of Marilyn Monroe's nude scene from The Misfits intact. Imagine if it had been included in the original! Supposedly, John Huston told her, "Honey, I've seen them before" and decided the scene would be unnecessary to the film. I wonder if it will be restored in future prints.

Spain narrows its Oscar submission to...
- Handia (The Giant) winner of 10 Goyas - lost Picture, Director and Sound, only. Beloved by the Spanish Academy, though. In basque.
- Everybody Knows, which has an incredible Oscar pedigree by Asghar Farhadi (2 wins), and the marriage of winners Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. I think, the fact that Farhadi is NOT Spanish will derail any chances of winning the submission.
- Campeones (Champions) by Oscar nominee Javier Fesser (Short film). Beloved by critics and audiences alike (3rd b.o. hit of the year so far, 18 weeks in theaters, still at number 15), and playing the emotional punch of being a gentle comedy in which most actors are actually featuring a real disability. I think it's not only winning the submission but under normal circumstances it's the Goya, Golden Globe and Oscar frontrunner (the latest two, in Foreign Film, obviously). A side-shot for Original Screenplay, too, at the Oscars.
Happy Birthday, Steve Martin! 8)
I imagine the trolls who accosted Ruby Rose are members of the LGBTQ movement. OK. By the same token, shouldn't gay actors ONLY play gay people? Wouldn't heterosexuals then have the right to feel offended if a heterosexual character is played by a gay person?
I believe the trolls want the best of both worlds.
I really hate this emergence of trolling on the internet. This was the same kind of assholes who made a porn actress last year kill herself because of her own concerns in having sex with actors who do both gay and straight films. SJWs need to fucking go. They are no different from those who are part of the KKK and ISIS.
Kathleen Turner is awesome and she needs to have a serious comeback. I love that woman.
The adult starlet who killed herself did so based on more than the online backlash she received.
I just remembered one thing: "THE RIDER", the amazing indie movie that got critical acclaim during last year's Fall/Winter film festivals got a 2018 USA release date... is "THE RIDER" an Oscar contender? The movie is AMAZING!!!!!
fanbingbing link does not work. takes you to wrong article
The Climax trailer link also doesn't work.
Social media is a vicious place but ‘quits twitter due to trolling’ feeling more & more like a promotional tool. Great we’re having a gay superhero & casting an out gay lead but Ruby Rose seems like a charisma vacuum to me.
That Turner interview is so great. It's interesting that she zeroes in on Taylor's voice. Camille Paglia wrote a whole essay about why she thinks Taylor is the greatest screen actress ever (and gets in a lot of cringey digs at Streep) but admits that Taylor's one weakness is her un-trained voice.
Yeah, Rose wasn't very impressive on Orange is the New Black but maybe this new role will fit her better.
Look, I like Jeff Goldblum, but this obsession with everything he does is getting old. It feels very much like something that's gained so much momentum people don't even think about or question what they're talking about anymore.
whaaaa and Ryan -- SORRY. LINKS ARE FIXED.
Turner, commenting on anybody else's voice is pretty funny, since Kathleen's has sounded like a cross between 'Mame'-era Lucille Ball and Tom Waits, for about the last quarter century!
The concept that only gay actors car play gay roles is absurd- so then only straight actors could play straight roles. It's called ACTING people- it's about convincing an audience you are the character you are playing no who you sleep with in real life.
There are many theories exciting about such human intelligence but you've given the perfect title here of two brains. I am visiting essayreviewexpert.com/review/edubirdie website to learn writing in your style by contacting with professionals.
