Half of the Oscar nominated films are still in theaters. Catch up!

Yesterday we saw huge increases in theater counts for several of the 37 Oscar nominated films (marked by up arrows below). If you've missed any of them, this is the week for it. The titles marked with an asterisk below were already on their way out of the theaters and did not add screens, so you'd best hurry up if you can find them!

At Eternity's Gate hits blu-ray on February 12thDifficult to See
Documentary nominee Hale County This Morning This Evening is playing at Metrograph in NYC this week but that's the only way we know of to see it. Another doc nominee Of Fathers and Sons isn't available on DVD til March but if you have Kanopy, through your public library, it's said to be available to stream there. Japan's Animated Feature nominee Mirai was at just 5 theaters last week so it's likely gone now. Sweden's Oscar submission Border, nominated for Best Makeup and Hair (and deservedly so) left theaters a few weeks ago and unfortunately will not be on DVD until a couple of days after the Oscars, so you'll have to catch up with that one after the fact. Two films with acting nominations At Eternity's Gate and Can You Ever Forgive Me? had rapidly been losing theaters and were in under 2 dozen last weekend so you might have a long drive to the nearest theater. At Eternity's Gate will be on DVD soon, though.
They weren't nominated but JUST expanded
Stan & Ollie, the Laurel & Hardy biopic about the comedy duo's semi-retirement years, added 641 theaters yesterday after missing its one real shot at a nomination (Best Makeup) -- Great timing! But it's a cute movie and Nina Arianda and John C Reilly are both marvelous in it so definitely see it if you love movies about movies. Destroyer starring Nicole Kidman added 27 screens to take it up to 77. Why they didn't push harder and faster given a marketable genre and star we'll never know because without that Best Actress nomination it's likely toast since it chose the platforming route.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? has LA theatrical bookings. I plan to see it and The Wife for the first time.
I just discovered the streaming website Kanopy, which is available to anyone with a membership at a participating public or educational library. Of Fathers and Sons is playing there.
And for any Boston folks, Hale County is playing at the Brattle Theater on Monday (Jan 28).
Anyone know if they plan to put ROMA in theaters?
Seattle has Mirai this weekend at the Seattle Int. Film Festival Film Center and at the Grand Illusion in a few weeks. Can You Ever Forgive Me expanded, and I'm going to see it again.
Never Look Away and Capernaum don't get here until February: the former only the weekend before the awards.
Roma is in theaters where I live in Carmel, Ca.
BlackkKlansman is on DVD. We just watched it... I thought I was not going to care for it... but We loved it.
Hope it wins best screenplay.

@Jonathan: Hopefully PBS is showing the full film. Often they show abbreviated versions on Independent Lens or POV.
Roma is playing in 3 theaters in the central Bay Area, so I assume it's in a limited release.
Bruno: I don't know, but it would be strange if they did that considering the film is barely over an hour long.
The Arclight here in Chicago just brought back At Eternity’s Gate, Can You Ever Forgive Me? and BlacKkKlansman. Saw AEG, which is difficult but worth it for Dafoe’s extraordinary work.
ROMA hadn’t left my favourite cinema here in Portland. We’re even getting the 70mm print next weekend.

Finally watched If Beale Street Could Talk!
Call me crazy but I don't get the Regina King hype. How is this one of the best supporting performances of 2018?
Stephan James easily gives the best performance in the film. He's so good it's insane he wasn't nominated for anything.
Roma was playing in three theatres somewhat near me (I live in Pasadena) but next week it will only be in one. I wonder if Roma's chances of winning big will be impacted by its limited expose. If people don't have Netflix or live on a coast, it is almost impossible to see this movie. If the academy is really becoming obsessed with being popular, will they reward the movie with the least accessibility?
@ Yavor- Stephan James is the best part of the movie absolutely. Where was his attention? Maybe he gets Emmy nominated instead.
Yavor - totally agreed -- I saw Beale Street a couple of weeks ago and I was baffled at how little I cared. It BEAUTIFUL to look at, but also distant and hard to feel penetrated by. I also found myself shocked that Regina King is winning everything... she was good, but I wasn't floored. I love her though, so I won't begrudge her this success. Stephan James was easily the MVP of the movie.
Tom - many would argue, however, that Roma is the *most* accessible, since most people have Netflix and that's accessible via computer or TV without even leaving your home. I don't want the industry to move in this direction, but I see that argument too. Even tho it damages the movie-going experience.
Also, people will have their screeners and I'm sure the ones without Netflix are chomping at the bit to watch Roma.
Just saw "Cold War" last night and I am going to see "Roma" tomorrow.
It's not an Oscar nominee, but "Burning" looks amazing.
Isn't the Supporting Actress category odd?
Exclude Stone and Weisz - two leading performances
and you're left with King, Adams, and Tavira.
And, Tavira, clearly gives the best performance of the three, in my book.
Not a good selection of nominees by Oscar this year.
