Richard Met Barbra!

Sometimes Oscar night offers a silver lining to those who go home empty handed. Case in point: Richard E. Grant may have not won Best Supporting Actor for Can You Ever Forgive Me? but he did get a prize of sorts that was a lifetime in the making. He finally met Barbra Streisand!

Some folks had thought that Grant's endlessly charming campaigning all season could yield him a surprise win, but Mahershala Ali's steamroll never slowed down enough for that to happen ultimately...

Nevertheless, Grant's expressive gratitude over the past months have been a much needed light in a often depressing season - so much so that each gracious and ebullient tweet would spread like a joyful wildfire. But none moreso than the multi-episode reveals of his superfandom for Barbra Streisand.

It all started with him sharing a fan letter he wrote her at the age of 14 and earning our "awwws". Then he cried at receiving the legend's response, and we cried along with him. And like all worthwhile stories, it all came full circle when Grant finally met his idol last night. In a night that gave as many tortures as pleasures, this shines as one of the most heartwarming bests of the night. Let's hope she also voted for her fan, too.

Richard E. Grant is a gift that keeps on giving. In so many of his roles he plays the cynical, hard boiled type, but in real life he's a soft hearted sweetie. I know Barbra was infatuated and clearly busy with Spike Lee but it's nice to see she carved out a bit of time for a long time fan.
They both look as happy as we would like them to be.
Nice consolation prize for Grant.

Why did a superstar like Barbra only present a clip of a best pic nominee. She should have presented Best Pic along with Cicely Tyson.

I want to see the Governor Award recipients present awards during the main telecast. Having them just sit there on the side and given a cursory hello is disrespectful.

Regardless of Grant being straight, or not gay at least, but this is the gayest thing evah and I live!!

With Nails would make a suitable title for this meet up as well!

I just loved the all act......it was totally fun! And I do agree with "Bette Streep", Barbra and Cicely shoud have presented Best Pic. You know, Nathaniel R., I will not ask you to be more generous with Barbra in the near future, but I will start to look for a similar site that does it! There´s not a single word from you telling about the standing ovation Barbra got only by appearing on stage! Sorry my poor english...you got the message!
