[Drum Roll] It's the Film Bitch Awards Medals Ceremony

It's the most painfully drawn-out nomination process followed by the swiftest awards ceremony of all. It involves your host Nathaniel slapping gold, silver, and bronze medals on the winners in the Film Bitch Awards chart! A Star is Born (10), The Favourite (9), and BlacKkKlansman (8) which all made the top ten list here, led the total medals count. It may surprise you to hear that Lady Gaga (5 for A Star is Born) and Rachel Weisz (4 between The Favourite / Disobedience) won the most medals for an individual performer,  since we didn't actually nominate either of them in the traditional 4 acting categories! But we have lots of "special" categories to reflect how we really experience the movies.

Awards Pg 1: Picture, Director, Screenplay, Animated Feature
Awards Pg 2: The Four Traditional Acting Categories
Awards Pg 3: Visuals
Awards Pg 4: Sound and Music
Awards Pg 5: Additional Acting Categories
Awards Pg 6: 'Characters of the Year' Prizes
Awards Pg 7: Best Individual Scenes (AND TRIVIA ABOUT THE AWARDS)

AND WITH THAT, MY FRIENDS, FOLLOWING THE OSCAR WRAP-UP, THE FILM YEAR IS COMPLETE. ON TO 2019, ALREADY IN PROGRESS! We're currently at two festivals (SXSW and San Luis Obispo) and of course we've been discussing Avengers and Captain Marvel  and gems currently in theaters like Ash is Purest White, Transitand more.

Fabulous. So happy for THE FAVOURITE win.

Fantastic! Always love seeing the end results.

Also I had to laugh at the perfect kicker... "least noms for a best picture nominee: GREEN BOOK and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (no nominations)"

Please finish the 2011 Film Bitch! There a no director and original screenplay winners

Fantastic picks, Nat! Also, I was looking through old Film Bitch Awards ceremonies and noticed something interesting. Nicole Kidman has the most acting nominations of any actor at 7! With 2 gold and 2 silver medals, to boot.

Yay!

Golds for The Favourite (lots of them), Lanthimos, I've Never Been to Me/YWNRH and Emily Nelson/Lively!

Silvers for Ettinger, Wolff, Phoenix Buchanan/Grant, and the Sorry to Bother You poster!

These are great! Thanks for all the work you put into this Nathaniel.

Yay Yorgos!

Where is the individual line readings?

I was expecting to watch:
"I am your MOTHER"
"I like when she puts her tongue in me"
"Estamos solas (We are alone)"

Great choices. Go, Gaga!

I always love the random categories that don’t have a write up, like Cinematography this year. I imagine Nathaniel, at 2am, exhausted and bleary eyed, going “fuck it, I don’t know, these five. you figure it out.” One of the small quirks of this series that brings me immense joy ❤️

A movie I think might be missing for somewhere in the action sequence category is Mandy. Because, well, an action scene of Nic Cage at his most ape**** is its own pleasure.

OLivia Colman deserves more attention (in general), but great line-up! Well done!

I have a similar awards of my own but it doesn't go by the calendar year but from July to July since my birthday is in July. It is based on a year of movie watching in my life but includes not just new feature films but any movie that I haven't seen before. For example, in my awards, Spike Lee and BlacKkKlansman are competing against Alfred Hitchcock and Frenzy. Inglourious Basterds has 4 acting nominations (Waltz, Bruhl, Fassbender, and Laurent) and Madeline Kahn is competing against Monique in best supporting actress.

@Tom G.
I'd love to watch your awards, sounds interesting.

My own "awards" is an archive that i have according to the year of release and is open to be constantly updated but keeping a ranking from best to less.

Cesar and Nathaniel- I have been doing this since I was 13. The inaugural awards saw Psycho vs Scream because I was a teenage boy. Psycho won big although Scream took home makeup and sound prizes and Drew Barrymore is a nominee for supporting actress. I also include TV movies if they are their own stand alone finite film and not part of a series, anthology, or continuation- Angels in American counted but nothing by Ryan Murphy. Last awards for July 17-July 18 were:
Picture:
An Affair to Remember
Bessie
A Day at the Races
Get Out
Hidden Figures

Director
Danny Boyle- Steve Jobs
Leo McCarey- An Affair to Remember
Bennett Miller- Capote
Jordan Peele- Get Out
Dee Rees- Bessie

Actor
Timothee Chalamet- Call Me by Your Name
Michael Fassbender- Steve Jobs
Cary Grant- An Affair to Remember
Philip Seymour Hoffman- Capote
Claude Rains- Mr. Skeffington

Actress
Sally Hawkins- The Shape of Water
Jennifer Jones- Madame Bovary
Diane Keaton- Manhattan Murder Mystery
Deborah Kerr- An Affair to Remember
Queen Latifiah- Bessie

Supporting Actor
William Devane- Family Plot
Alec Guinness- Kind Hearts and Coronets
James Earl Jones- Field of Dreams
Jack Nicholson- Reds
Michael Stuhlbarg- The Shape of Water

Supporting Actress
Ronee Blakley- Nashville
Elsa Lanchester- Bell Book and Candle
Janelle Monae- Hidden Figures
Marisa Tomei- The Wrestler
Kate Winslet- Steve Jobs

By my count, Lady Gaga has six Film Bitch Awards - one for song score, two for original song, two for musical scene in a musical, and one for best ending (or does the last not count?).

Either way, what a banner year for her!

March 17, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Tom G.,

Why did you prefer Michael Stuhlbarg's Shape of Water performance over his Call Me By Your Name performance? Just curious.

KB

March 17, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterKB

@KB- Stuhlbarg actually wins my award from that year. I enjoyed CMBYN but overall found it overhyped. His performance in TSOW was better in my opinion due to a convincing Russian accent and more character agency. I understood the choices and dilemmas the character faced. He was also good in Steve Jobs which I also watched during that time, but I preferred TSOW performance and honestly movie over all the others he appeared in.

March 17, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterTom G.

KB and Tom G — wait until you see his performance in Traitors. Best thing in the rather dullish drama. He is a very fine actor.

Nathaniel- love that Shoplifters is in your top five plus Ando gets a Silver!
