Beauty vs Beast: The Spy Who Stabbed Me
Monday, June 17, 2019 at 3:00PM Jason Adams from MNPP here, continuing our little Pride Month run of LGBT-centric "Beauty vs Beast" contests -- we're turning our eyes towards the small screen this week for one of our favorite on-going queer series, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's fabulously twisted sapphic spy versus spy series Killing Eve. Deserving all of the awards we can violently fling at them in one corner we've got Sandra Oh as Eve, the hyper-capable but darksided intelligence officer, and in the other there's Jodie Comer as the psychopath but don't call her that Villanelle (god that name is so good), who's spotted a little something inside Eve she can't wait to dig her fingers around in.
PREVIOUSLY That low-cut tank-top on Brad Davis proved too tough for us to resist, tilting last week's Querelle poll perilously in his favor with a broad-chested 82% of the vote. I would shed a tear for Franco Nero but... he's Franco Nero, he's more than okay. Said FrenchToast:
"Team Brad Davis all the way!What a brilliant actor he was. Was it too much to ask for him to get Oscar nominated in 1979? I remember reading Genet's novel in high school and being mesmerized (and probably aroused) by his poetic writing. Even if Fassbinder's movie has its flaws, it's a daring and terrific adaptation."

When I first started the show, I thought Jodie Comer’s flashy performance was the MVP. But the more I watched, I realized that this is Oh’s game. There’s something about her acting that makes everything she does seem so urgent, sexy, and haunted. You get the feeling that only she could’ve played this role. Every other role in this seems expendable in comparison. Plus, Comer’s spotty accents bother me a ton.
Just remembering the first time I watched Jodie Comer: "The White Princess". She was very good in that good, but she's "killer" good in "Killing Eve".
God this is a tough choice... I must say Jodie Comer TERRIFIES me in this role. You don't know if she's going to seduce you, or kill you, or both ;-)
I love both of them sooooo much on this show. Tough choice but i voted for Villanelle since Eve got the Emmy and their duet is the show's MVP so spread the wealth.
Eve got the Emmy, but Villanelle got the BAFTA.
My vote goes to Villanelle.

Eve got the Emmy nomination (maybe this year?). She did win a Golden Globe, however.
I voted for her because Sandra Oh has been unappreciated for years. She had virtually no projects between Grey's Anatomy and Killing Eve, and that's so wrong... she's one of the best working actresses.
Holy Shit! All these years I thought Brad Davis was nominated. I really do not like knowing that he was not. My illusion was fine. Reality is strange, kinda like the one we're living through now. I think the Prince of Whales would agree. Sad.

Look, I LOVE Sandra Oh and I LOVE her performance as Eve... but Jodie Comer's Villanelle just steals the show. I love the little smile she gets whenever she's about to go into assassin mode and kill somebody. She just enjoys what she does, and enjoys the lifestyle it has allowed her to live. She's an icon.
