Remember "An Ideal Husband"?

This picture poppd into my head quite unexpectedly this morning. So many delicious actors were in this (Blanchett, Moore, Everett, Lindsay Duncan, Simon Russell Beale, etcetera). Oh, and a very happy 50th birthday today to the ever-undervalued Minnie Driver!

I can't believe Driver is only 50, if only because she feels like she has been around for so long.

I know she's been on a few 2-3 season sitcoms lately that haven't gotten much buzz, but she's someone that I would love to see get a big "comeback" Renee style, or just find a great drama/comedy role that get people talking. Her work on the Riches, was amazing (and got her a deserved Emmy nom).

Such a delightful adaptation. Every actor is at the top of his/her game, but Moore as Mrs Cheveley is the clear MVP, a marvel of juicy insidiousness.1999 was an incredible year for her: Cookie's Fortune at the Berlin Film Festival, An Ideal Husband as the Cannes closing title, A Map of the World, the nomination for The End of the Affair, the iconic turn in Magnolia. Just try to match this incredible run.

The title should be "Rember Minnie Driver?"

Oh, dear Minnie Driver! She basically saved The Phantom of the Opera from being a complete disaster. Her funny Carlotta is, for me, unforgettable.

Ever-undervalued indeed. She’s wonderful in this and much else. And yeah, this was a delightful adaptation.
