33 Days till Oscar

33 is sometimes called 'the Jesus year' but how many people have won the Oscar while sporting Jesus hair. Not too damn many. We can only think of Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Best Supporting Actor), Robert Richardson (three wins in Cinematography), and Ludwig Goransson (Black Panther's score) if you don't require the beard with the long hair. Christian Bale (The Fighter) almost applies but then he went and cut his hair between the Globes and Oscar night in the winter of 2011. Anyone else?

I don't know why I remember this but both guys that tied for sound editing in 2012 had long hair

Claudio Miranda? Or is that style more Lucius Malfoy than Jesus?

I seem to recall Daniel Day-Lewis sporting long hair, though it was more revolutionary war than jesusy.

How about 2 winners of the same award in the same year for different films:

Paul N.S. Ottosson "zero Dark Thirty"
Per Halberg "Skyfall"

who tied in the Best sound Mixing category

Claudio Miranda, perhaps?

Last year’s score winner for Black Panther - Ludwig Göransson (heart eyes emoji)

Ludwig Göransson..........thanks for the reminder.

Cláudio, you're right about Claudio Miranda.

Nathaniel, I don't know if I've ever seen much producer statistics on this site. This year ends Dede Gardner's streak of 5 years in a row having a film in the Best Picture Race. Has anybody topped that streak in producing? Might be a great statistic to explore for 5 Days Till Oscars...

@shawshank: That would have been a cool piece of trivia, but she missed out in 2017 (the year THE SHAPE OF WATER won). Still one heck of a run...

2011: THE TREE OF LIFE
2013: 12 YEARS A SLAVE
2014: SELMA
2015: THE BIG SHORT
2016: MOONLIGHT
2018: VICE

She does have a 4-year streak (2013-2016) that she shares with Jeremy Kleiner. No idea if that’s a record.

Leto's win is truly a travesty.

Jeff Bridges? His tresses were not as long as Rapunzel's or Leto's, but with his beard and some of DeNiro's deaging tricks, he wouldn't have looked out of place as a standard Hollywood Jesus.

I think this candle makes the point about Jeff Bridges: https://www.illuminidol.com/products/the-dude

;-)

Definitely Daniel Day-Lewis, when he won for “My Left Foot.”

^^^needed some beard

Casey Affleck had a messianic beard as well as hair that was potentially long enough: it was tied back with a low man-bun, making it a bit harder to understand exactly how far down it fell.

I’m very surprised that no one has mentioned Linus Sandgren. He was the cinematographer on La La Land and had a very memorably long flow when he won in 2017.
