"Hello, it's me ♫ ♬ I was wondering if after all this showbiz history..."

7 random things that happened on this day (Nov 14th) in showbiz history

1941 Alfred Hitchcock's Suspicion premieres. It reaps three Oscar nominations (including Best Picture) winning Best Actress for Joan Fontaine. (Olivia de Havilland was NOT pleased that her baby sister beat her to an Oscar... so she won two of them)

Network, Hoosiers, Adele, and more after the jump...

1976 Network, one of the most electric and prescient movies of all time, premieres in both LA and NY before a nationwide bow two weeks later. It will go on to 10 Oscar nominations and 4 wins. My piece on this classic is one of my favourite things I've written

1986 Hoosiers opens in movie theaters becoming a sleeper hit and geting Dennis Hopper his only acting nomination. Blue Velvet, the same year, obviously helped; great years demand to be recognized!

1988 Murphy Brown premiered on CBS. The show would run for 10 seasons and win Candice Bergen five Emmys for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

1996 The Broadway revival of Chicago opens at the Richard Rodgers Theater. The show never closed thereafter... well, until the all Broadway shutdown *sniffle* earlier this year.

2003 Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World opens in movie theaters. The movie will receive 10 Oscar nominations and two wins: Cinematography and Sound Editing. Michael wrote beautifully about it last year.

2015 Adele's "Hello" hits #1. It'll stay there for an incredible 10 weeks. Did you know that the video was directed by French-Canadian auteur Xavier Dolan?

Today's Birthday Suit

Happy 24th to Mason Gooding of Love Victor fame. Did you know that he's the son of Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr? I didn't until just now!

Veronica Lake/Louise Brooks vs. Dick Powell/Brian Keith are such very different types to share a birthday.

Obscure bit of trivia Keith's father actor Robert Keith was briefly married to the infamous Peg Entwistle who leaped to her death from the Hollywood sign.

I loved Murphy Brown when I was growing up. Candice Bergen was just perfect in that show, and it was a lot of fun to see Colleen Dewhurst play her mother. It's a shame it can't stream anywhere (I understand the music rights are a big probem).

Come back with a new album, Adele, we miss you.

Adele and Dolan got along so well that he wanted her to be in one of his movies. Maybe she gets a second Oscar nomination down the road if she completely changes to acting.

I am happy to welcome Adele back as long as she's bringing something uplifting for a change.

Hopper is better in Blue Velvet than Hoosiers.

Adele, one of the few current singers that I actually like.

Adele looks like Sarah Paulson now and that is very distracting.

Yes! I really wished this post to happen on my birthday, thanks!
In other news, this day will be remembered as the day where three people died and many had dissapeared on the march against Merino, who took the presidency of my beloved Peru illegitimate. Hoy todos estamos de duelo.

Mason must have had a few months when his dad won an Oscar.

I wish Oscars were bold enough to nominate Dennis Hooper in "Blue Velvet" and embrace the film more. Best Original Screenplay nomination to "...Dundee" over it is.... (no words found)
