Do you think Taika Waititi won his Oscar because people actually thought Jojo Rabbit was well written or do you think he won because he himself is super charming and fun?

Nathaniel - so you are a Law and Order SVU fan? Do yourself a favour and listen to the "And These Are There Stories" podcast. Great repartee about your favourite episodes and characters.

Gina Gershon in Showgirls is one of the best performances in American cinema and Gina Gershon in House of Versace is one of the best performances in American television.

Jon: I think Jojo was well-liked by voters, and largely seen as Taika's project. It's certainly his voice, so that's a natural place to reward him for it.

We need a full space one day to talk about Monty in The Heiress. I think it's such an interesting performance. He's so well-cast, and I love the newness of his acting style in such an otherwise of-its-time movie, but I know some take issue with him in it.

I don't even want to think about Taika Waititi's Oscar. I bear him no ill will for it and like his films, but Greta Gerwig should have won.

The Heiress is such a great film. People should talk about it more often.

I so want to watch Law and Order SVU right now.
Also the cat fashion show gives me life. Finally a diva who knows how to walk.

MIKE -- good idea. Clift's Centennial is later this year and I'm thinking we're going to do his ENTIRE filmography. I really want to. just love him.

Marshako -- I hate the Law & Order franchise but that clip spoof gave me life.

@Jon I think it is safe to say that JoJo Rabbit was very well liked, and it's writing was rewarded by most of the major precursors, including BAFTA and WGA. 6 Oscar noms, including one for ScarJo which wasn't widely considered locked, and Waititi was probably 6th for director if we are being realistic. I know it faced some backlash, but it weathered that quite easily. I wouldn't even be shocked if the film itself were Top 5 in Picture.

Peggy Sue - 100000000000000000% agree on both counts!

Jon - I was actually rooting for THE IRISHMAN (old-style Hollywood epic writing, sure, but thta doesn't detract from the brilliance of the plotting and dialogue), but Gerig was my close second choice and Waititi was a close third. I would have been happy for any of them to win, so I don't think he won because of his charm, biut for the brilliance of the script.

(In fact, I believe this was a good category this year, with all five (very different) nominated scripts having something challenging and talented in them worthy of the nomination. (I think critics of the category, generally in the anti JOKER or POPES camps, are letting their biases against the films for other reasons get in the way.)

I love SVU so I am definitely going to check out that podcast, thanks LadyEdith. Although I have far less time for podcasts these days because i am not on public transport. When I am working I listen to music. I need to be better at slotting podcasts into my time like when doing dishes.

Search through @BenYahr on Twitter for a Pitch Perfect version of Miranda Priestley and the Cerulean Blue speech from "The Devil Wears Prada".
