Tweetweek: Special Gallows Humor Episode

This message popped up on Twitter and we all had a good laugh about it. Niche humor for Oscar watchers only but something might be wrong with Twitter's notification algorithms.

More after the jump including Mad Men, proprietary feelings about Keanu Reeves, a Nicole Kidman ditty, Simu Liu's quarantine and lots of gallows humor because that's the world we're living in...

That thing where you briefly forget that Mad Men was your favourite show and it was also a cinephile's treasure hunt and then someone reminds you perfectly.

That one took me a second but if you sing along it's so beautiful. Haha.

More curated tweets plus gallow humors after the jump...

Why weren't people having that in 2009? We tried!

I wanted to retweet this 1000 times. This is slander. GenX made Keanu (and Winona). They are part of us. Newer generations trying to claim them is so obnoxious. Yes, you may also enjoy them but don't pretend they weren't beloved before your pop culture eyes first opened!

INSPIRED GALLOWS HUMOR
Because the world deserves that right now...

Marion Cotillard should have WON best actress that year, and I hate Nine.

Nathaniel, are you going for Glenn Close as your No. 1 pick?

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Leslie Jordan - he is so funny about (Dorothy) Faye Dunaway. Hee Hee!!

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterEric

Just your daily (sporadic) reminder that Renée Zellweger is a two-time Academy Award winning Actress.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterNathaniel (ka)R(ma)

OMG, I just love Leslie Jordan! Hahahahaha

And I’m sure we’ve all heard several stories about Faye Dunaway and her bitchery, but you can’t deny her talent! With so many wonderful performances, she deserves her iconic status.

Also, is there any way you can delete comments? Or maybe even ban certain people from commenting? Seeing Nathaniel (ka)R(ma)’s daily post is aggravating! Ugh!

Nine is a terrible film. But, Cotillard should have received a nomination. The "is she lead or supporting" thing, given the Weinstein's Oscar prospects for the film, really killed her chances.

Hey,

I started an arts and entertainment writers group and we're having a film chat.
I'd love to get a mix of ppl:

If you're bored during the corona virus and if you want to discuss films live, this is a zoom session:

Please delete it immediately Nathaniel! I'm the Faye Dunaway of commenters and if you do not I will break quarantine, track you down and throw a cup of hot piss in your face!

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterEric

Damn Eric, who put a wire hanger in your closet? Both Nathaniel's, Rogers and (ka)R(ma), provide more entertainment and interest than you so maybe cool it and just be kind and caring during these tough times?

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJoan

Why so bitter Eric? We have Smackdowns and Seasons of Bette returning. Let people have a bit of joy here.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterScarlett

Personally I thought Marion should be in best actress and Penelope supporting (she more than earned that nom) the category confusion also cost Melanie Laurent a nomination that year as well.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterTom G.

Nine was indeed awful with Marion Cotillard being the only person in that film to do anything worth noting. It seemed like she just channeled Anouk Aimee throughout the film and put her on spin as I'm sure she probably watched 8 1/2 unlike some people involved in the film.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterthevoid99

Scarlett -- since the second Eric comment is an attempt to make the first Eric comment look bad I'm sure we just have the imposter syndrome starting again. SIGH. it's *sooooooo* boring (as are the karma posts... though it's amusing to me that anyone thinks *I* have that kind of power in Hollywood to receive retribution for not liking an actor - lol)

anyway re: impostors: Just be yourselves people. You're the only one who can be you and pretending to be someone else is for the professionals we love: aka movie stars.

But also why do you keep trying to spread that Seasons of Bette rumor?

April 25, 2020 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I think she is in a gray area. The long-suffering wives always go supporting, but not always. Reese even won.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

I felt that Cotillard was Supporting in Nine. Day-Lewis is the lead and everyone else is supporting. She gives by far the film's best performance. Slim competition I know but still.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMichael R

Thank you sooo much, Nathaniel.

And I didn’t know an Eric had posted first. I’m actually the second Eric on here (with the post about Faye’s bitchery and iconic status and banning certain people).

I don’t know why we can’t all just be adults. And I wish there was a way to stop the trolls on here. :(

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterEric F

I'll echo the love for Marion in Nine, but she's definitely Supporting in my mind. The movie isn't good, but it's glossy and stylish enough that I can put it on for a while when I just want to turn my brain off or watch certain sequences like Take it All, Be Italian, My Husband Makes Movies, or Cinema Italiano (the song is idiotic, but I like the way it's performed).

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterthefilmjunkie

We absolutely worshipped Keanu.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Just a personal reaction but, after that video, I have more disrespect for Leslie Jordan than Faye Dunaway. He seems the mean, self-centred one here...

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterTravis C

Preach about Cotillard.
She ran circles around everyone in Nine (easy feat, I know) but when you remember the Oscar lineup...

Mo'Nique, Precious (always winning that Oscar)
Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air (acceptable)
Penélope Cruz, Nine (meh)
Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air (meh)
Maggie Gylenhaal, Crazy Heart (terrible)

So... They watched Nine. The gave her an Oscar 2 years before. Were they blind?
It's such a STAR performance.

April 25, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJay

If we're considering Cotillard in supporting I have to be bold and bring you the truth:

Cotillard in Nine > Monique in Precious

Last night I dreamed I had afternoon tea with Keanu Reeves.

It seems that weird dreams are typical of quarantines. It seems that many dreams draw on the stimulus and encounters of the day.

When the daily stimulus is absent, apparently many people start using their past as dream material.

I wonder if the readers of The Film Experience instead of drawing on the past, use movie characters, themes, and locations as dream material.

A few nights ago, I dreamed I was remonstrating with Brad Pitt for lounging against pillars, instead of doing the task he said he would do.

I also read that we remember our dreams more, since we are not rushing when we wake up to do things.
