Beauty Break: Batman's Smokey Eye
by Nathaniel R
Behold the first tease of Robert Pattinson as The Batman (2021). Who knew the Dark Knight loved a smokey eye (and some spiky bangs)? Then again who doesn't? Even if these smokey eyes are less lancome than practical how-to-blend-your-eyes-with-your-black-mask, we love them. After the jump an impromptu Beauty Break with other smokey-eyed movie classics...

Lisbeth Salander quickly came to my mind while watching this new Batman. Now it seems absurd how it wasn´t Frank N' Turner.
I used to dislike him so much in Twilight but now he's one of my favourite actors.
Nathaniel, speaking of Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, I saw these for sale recently and it made me immediately laugh and think of you:

Remember how in Batman Returns Michael Keaton has the smokey eye when he’s Batman, and then when he tears off his mask in the last scene with Catwoman (“all good girls go to heaven” scene) all of a sudden he has no smokey eye. Haha, I think about that a lot.
Looks like lots of fun.
I'm tired of superhero movies.
Absolutely love this post. What great mix of compelling characters. Had never thought through their make-up similarities.
I thought of The Crow. Seemed like a direct rip-off, tbh.
Nathaniel, it is AUGUST. And you still don't have any predictions for Actors and Actresses. That makes me really sad. I know it's a crazy year. But give us a little bit of normalcy, please??? Thank you.
Except for the terrible Joel Schumacher films EVERY Batman film since 1989 has been promoted as a dark new spin on the character. It looks G-rated now, but the 1989 Batman was considered extremely dark compared to previous filmed depictions of its characters, and definitely much darker than superhero films at the time. So a "dark and gritty" Batman is hardly a new thing ....
That said, even though I have comic book movie fatigue and would like to see these movies incorporate colors other than black, brown, and grey ... I think this actually looks quite good, and I hope it IS good. I'm definitely interested in seeing it.
I am not unreasonable. If you're finishing up Seasons of Bette that's understandable.
Batman '89 remains very adult thematically. It's violence also isn't lighter than what's come after with the exception of the R rated Joker.
