1949 The first Primetime Emmys ever were held at the Hollywood Athletic Club. But the Emmys then were not as we know them today. They were purely local celebrating Los Angeles television programs and stations. Over the first decade they morphed into the national TV celebration we have today... albeit with far fewer categories.
1961 Disney's 101 Dalmations came out on this day. We had a lot of fun writing about it for its 50th anniversary...
1970 Robert Altman's MASH has its world premiere in NYC (though it doesn't really get the full release treatment until March). It goes on to be a smash hit, the third most popular film of its year (after Love Story and Airport), and is nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture. Most famously it spawns a sitcom adaptation two years later that actually eclipses it in fame (something that doesn't happen often).
2004 The 61st annual Golden Globes are held with the final installment of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Lost in Translation winning the Best Picture prizes. 24 and The Office and Angels in America were the big TV winners. Streep's best performance of the Aughts? Or is that Prada?
2019 Bad movie we love Serenity opens in theaters with Diane Lane talking dirty, Matthew McConaughey skinny dipping, Jeremy Strong stalking him desperately for unknown reasons, and Anne Hathaway camping up in femme noir mode... all leading to an insane twist finale. We still can't believe it exists.

I’ve only seen Mia Kirshner in Exotica and The Black Dahlia and she sure as hell delivered in both. I still think about her desperate audition scene in the latter ... too bad the film itself was dreadful, it would’ve been a great launching pad for her career.

Personal Shopper is my favorite Assayas and Prada is Meryl's best of the '00s.
Mia Kirshner and Rose McGowan were the best parts of Black Dahlia. As Bushwick said, too bad the movie was not that good, because I personally think Mia delivered an awards worthy performance in it.
Altman's M*A*S*H* is a fine film but the series, by virtue of its longevity, the skill of its writers and cast and it's evolving nature which kept it from becoming stale, is a much richer experience.
Adaptation is Meryl’s best performance of the aughts.
It's a little dissapointing that a when an actress is very famous she over shadow other people that also need recognition. I've seen many showbiz history articles focused on Meryl Streep when the event that is mentioned is an award ceremony were other people also won and deserv to be discused too
She is a great actress but honestly I don't get the praise about her in Prada, the character is so cold and with the smooth way she speaks sounds more dramatic than funny, a little strange considering that she's been showed a good comic timing (Postcards from the Edge, Death Becomes Her)
Adaptation, Angels ans Prada are her best performances with ease.
Yes, Miranda Priestly is deadly serious, maybe that's why she's quite funny in TDWP. Her remarks are sharp as a knife.

My favorite Streep performances are The Hours and Angels in America. My God the death bed scenes between Roy Cohn and Ethel Rosenberg in Perestroika - perfection.
Seeing Love and Human Remains mentioned makes me miss ‘90s video rental stores (even if I don’t remember it beyond remembering liking it). Kirshner is such an interesting case - I liked her a ton in a few things but on the L Word her character was sooo dislikable I’d think it’d have to have affected her career, even though she didn’t write the part.
