Kit Clarke as Rupert Everett? Good casting!

We totally missed sharing this story that is now a bit old but it might be news to you!

Rupert Everett will be played by Kit Clarke in a new film

Rupert Everett was one of our first heroes. The now 62 year-old actor is the first movie star in our lifetime that came out of the closet. It was such a ballsy move for a leading man in 1989, you can't even imagine if you weren't alive at the time. While it's still a brave move in some ways for today's actors, it's no longer at all unusual and large pockets of the media, Hollywood, and fan culture are supportive enough that we have dozens of famous  out actors in 2021! (The closet still exists in Hollywood, too, of course). Everett was the only one back in the day. (Sir Ian McKellen came out a year before Rupert but he was not yet a movie star and the stage has always been more accepting of gay talent.) Everett doesn't always get the credit for being a pioneer, partially because of his repeatedly sharp tongue and controversial statements (including his own coming out) as well as that "difficult" reputation. But we will forever love him for paving the way.

We forgot to share the news from a month back that the star is moving behind the camera for his latest which will be an autobiographical film called Lost and Found in Paris...

Kit Clarke at 24 (right now) and Rupert Everett at 24 (on stage with Kenneth Branagh)

Kristin Scott Thomas, John Malkovich, and Rupert himself are in supporting roles but 24* year-old British actor/model Kit Clarke has won the leading role. We think the casting is pretty spot on. Photos to prove it after the jump...

Rupert's description of the film is as follow:

Lost and Found in Paris is a film about the rollercoaster of life, the exuberance and glamour of youth, seen through the lens of a life well lived. I went to Paris on an exchange trip in 1977. I was supposed to learn French. Instead I discovered fashion, disco, drugs, rent boys and finally – right at the edge of the abyss – myself.”

Can't wait. We know Everett can write (he's been penning fiction and memoirs since the late 80s, some of which we've read) but what can he do behind the camera? We'll find out in a year or two. The movie starts shooting in early 2022.

* We actually don't know Kit's exact age but articles around the release of Get Even suggest he was 23 and that was a year ago...

My favourite Rupert Everett movies:

“A Midsummer’s Night Dream” with Everett perfect as Oberon, Stanley Tucci as his sidekick Puck, and Michelle Pfeiffer as his queen Titania.

“The Importance Of Being Earnest” from the play by Oscar Wilde, with Everett, Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Frances O’Connor, and Judi Dench.

“An Ideal Husband”, another Oscar Wilde play, with Minnie Driver, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Jeremy Northam.

“Dance With A Stranger”, Everett and the magnificent Miranda Richardson.

“St. Trinians”, Everett in the role originally played by Alistair Sims (“A Christmas Carol”) with a cast of young British actresses being wild, clever, and free.

Wow, that photo of 24yo Rupert Everett is giving me Timothee Chalamet vibes.
