One Actor, One Character, Many Globes

This next Sunday, Sacha Baron Cohen is probably going to win at least one Golden Globe, whether for his Oscar-aiming turn in Trial of the Chicago 7 or his second go-around as Borat. I'm especially interested in that last potential victory since it would put him in a pretty exclusive club. To my knowledge, only one actor has managed to win more than one Globe for film by playing the same character multiple times. While franchises and sequels tend to dominate the box office, they don't generally score a lot of gold for their actors so it's notable when someone manages to buck the trend. Did they all deserve to? That's another story altogether.

Love Sacha. Love Borat. But this year the Borat love needs to get directed at Maria Bakalova. Her work in that film is singular genius.

It's almost impossible to believe that Al Pacino never got any Globe (or Oscar) love for his Godfather films despite several chances.
sorry but people - I think - simply doesn't respect the scope and challenge that a film like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm means, and how, overall, it's not only on par with the original but even may be even better, specially screenplay-wise. It was a suicidal task, but also dangerous, not only for shooting during a pandemic, but also on how potentially dangerous some scenes that both SBC and Bakalova were in, and all of it, with a clear motivation as pure activism (well paid activism, let's agree on that). SBC might win not for the "quality" or "novelty" of his performance (he can play the role sleepwalking at this point, but that doesn't lower the difficulty of the challenge) but because of his committment and general intention of the film itself: a WAKE UP CALL to a numbed and dumbed down society.
I hope this sweeps... specially because Hamilton - its main competitor - it's not even a film!
Judi Dench's two nominations are a unique case: Drama for the first time round as the character, Musical/Comedy for the second time round.
It's a bit like when they gave Around the World in Eighty Days Best Film Drama but Cantinflas, in the same film, won Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy.
The Globes did right by Al Pacino with the Godfather films: three nominations, and all in lead. A pity he didn't win - but he did get film Globes for Serpico and Scent of a Woman.
And I think that Peter Sellers should have won for at least one of his performances as Clouseau.
I can't believe that O'Toole won the Globe 2x at a time with less precursors and still did not win Oscar. Stupid Academy.
But I am fine with a 2nd win and any Borat love.
Overlooked.
John Houseman won a supporting actor Golden Globe for the film The Paper Chase and then received two consecutive Golden Globe lead actor nominations for his portrayal of Professor Charles W. Kingsfield, Jr.in the television series.
I wonder if Houseman is the only cross-platform nominee.
Also: I find O’Toole’s (and Dench’s) achievement particularly impressive given the fact that the two films are not part of a so-called franchise.
I think he's awful in Chicago 7 and mostly unfunny in Borat 2. Loved the first one.

No, Sacha Baron Cohen doesn't deserve the same distinction as people/artists/stars like Peter O'Toole. - The star of Lawrence of Arabia ia another level, another league. But, people/artists/star like SBC is what we have now, what we deserve.

WHAT?! Kristen Wiig was sooo good in Wonder Woman 1984.
John -- yup. the Razzies are so silly. it's just whatever movies are easy targets each time. No acttual thinking about what bad acting is or else Jared Leto would be there ;)
He is excellent in "The Trial of the Chicago 7" and may win.
The Razzies are silly indeed. They're just putting out negative energy; it's unnecessary and off-putting. Bad movies exist--no need to give them a spotlight, especially when they're oftentimes just bullying people.
Wait, they shortlisted Glenn Close but not Amy Adams for Hillbilly Elegy? Is it just because Glenn is the one getting the Oscar buzz? I don't think she should win for that performance, but I think she's fine (in fact, she makes a character that's designed as a cartoon feel like an actual human being), while Amy Adams is the one who is actually bad (she's trying, but she can't get over how miscast she is).
To be fair, both Amy Adams and Glenn Close deserve razzie noms. Glenn Close stans: I don't care. It's going to sweep and win the oscar.
