ICYMI - Ann Roth reacts to her Oscar win

This has been making the rounds but perhaps you missed it as we initially did. Veteran costume designer Ann Roth, who we've discussed at length before, wasn't at the Oscars. Like Hopkins, the oldest man ever to win Best Actor, she's the oldest to win in her field and the second oldest of all time; only James Ivory, Call Me By Your Name, was older in winning a competitive Oscar and by just a matter of weeks.

Roth seems very happy about the second Oscar, which was almost a quarter century coming after The English PatientHer daughter wrote about it, saying...

My mom is with her crew in Charlotte, NC, working on Are You There God? It’s me, Margaret. So, in the hotel room of her incredible assistant, Matthew Pachtman, she celebrates her win with what I know she hopes is a chocolate Oscar...

We all know that art is not a competition and trying to select one piece of work to celebrate above all others is not in the spirit of creativity, which always begets more, not less, for everyone. That being said, it’s always nice to be recognized by one’s colleagues.

There has been a lot of publicity about my mother being the oldest woman to win an Oscar and, when the very hospitable people of North Carolina have said to her, somewhat incredulously, “You’re down here for work? Bless your heart! And what do you do?” She has taken to answering them, “I’m the Oldest Living Costume Designer™"

Haha. We love the professional title.

She's costuming Bates!

Why does the new Oscar look thinner than previous versions? Especially since she's a petite elderly woman.

Is that the actual Oscar? Because it does seem smaller and light in her hands!

I think her assistant bought a chocolate Oscar to present to her if she won. That GIF has me smiling from ear to ear. What a legend.

Wholesome content. More of this, please.

This video is incredible. What a great lady and artist.

Our film group just watched Midnight Cowboy, and she is the one responsible for Voight's hat and Hoffman's shoes. Genius.
