I'm off to see Eyes of Tammy Faye and apologize that the Smackdown is running late (it'll be up tomorrow... the registrations and site difficulties of the past few days have eaten up all our time) so in the meantime, complete these sentences in the comments for fun.

I have no idea who is winning at the Oscars yet and you can't convince me that anyone is locked in until at least December - with that being said, I am here for high camp, always, and Gaga in Gucci looks it might be a camp classic in the making.

2. I don't care about Dune but I hope it means good things for Zendaya’s career. She’s a tremendous force and a gorgeous presence - but is she only as good as her material?
3. Lady Gaga is winning Best Actress at the Oscars and you can't convince me otherwise ... yet! People are still talking about her and the trailer came out awhile ago.

1. The movie I'm most excited about this fall/winter is Dune because it's the granddaddy of all scifi, laying the foundation for everything from Star Wars to Game of Thrones. Plus, Villeneuve can work wonders.
2. I don't care about West Side Story but I hope it means good things for Rita Moreno's career.
3. The Green Knight is winning Best Production Design and Costumes at the Oscars and you can definitely convince me otherwise, because the Oscars just have not latched onto A24 productions like they should.

For most of the other movies mentioned above, it would be the first time the actress gets a nomination apart from Lady Gaga who already has one for song writing. The narrative will be that now is Chastain's time and that she is overdue for a win.

1. The movie I'm most excited about this fall/winter is Almodovar's Parallel Mothers because, even when I don't LOVE his movies, I always find his work really rich and worth watching.
2. I don't care about The Eyes of Tammy Faye but I hope it means good things for Jessica Chastain's career.
3. Kirsten Dunst is winning Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars and you can't convince me otherwise ... yet! Because I think the movie looks fantastic and could well be the kind of awards juggernaut that gets a great nomination haul... she might well be perfectly positioned for the academy to reward her (1st nomination is way overdue!) and the movie with a win, especially as it looks to be a juicy role that could still be categorised supporting and might give her plenty of opportunities to emote and be depressed on-screen, which she's so great at.
1. The movie I'm most excited for is The Princess Switch 3 because the first two are masterpieces and I'm happy as long as they keep adding ridiculous new characters for Vanessa. (jk it's probably west side story cause musicals or last night in soho because OMG that trailer)
2. I don't care about The Many Saints of Newark but I hope it means good things for Billy Magnussen's career. He's so wonderful and has felt so close to breaking out for several years.
3. I'll echo practically everyone. Kristen Stewart in Spencer. Could dominate critics awards and be undeniable by the time industry awards arrive.
1. The movie I'm most excited about this fall/winter is Spencer because it LOOKS gorgeous, feels like the right balance of nuanced and glamorous, and seems like the right vehicle for Kristen Stewart's long-awaited awards moment (nomination or win). This has intrigued me in a way nothing else has.
Although I gotta give a shoutout to House of Gucci bc it looks F U N and I feel that's what we all need right now more than anything.
2. I don't care about The Eyes of Tammy Faye but I hope it means good things for Jessica Chastain's career. She would've been such a worthy winner for Zero Dark Thirty, and she should've been easily nominated for A Most Violent Year... this movie looks messy to me. Campy like House of Gucci, but less in control. While it could be a winning role, we'll have to wait and see. For now, I'm just hoping it brings her back to the awards circuit in some capacity.
3. Kristen Stewart is winning Best Actress at the Oscars and you can't convince me otherwise ... yet! I can totally see it happening. Right project/timing/role for her and Diana. I can also see Kirsten Dunst winning Supporting Actress as she's even more overdue for a first nomination and in a real bait-y prestige project from an acclaimed filmmaker as well.
A lot of votes for Stewart. I do wonder if the discourse was like this before anyone saw DIANA with Naomi Watts (but i cant seem to remember). at any rate it won't be that much of a disaster since Pablo Larrain is an excellent filmmaker.

I love Kristen Stewart but she's a subtle performer and the Oscar doesn't often go for subtlety. Chastain has a much better chance.

Nathaniel- I remember a few Oscar sites picking Watts in the top five and even in the number one position- but only early in the Oscar season- think around April so nothing was seen yet, we only had the hype. If the movie was any good, it is possible she would have gotten some real traction- playing a real beloved person, already nominated and probably due for a win, etc. Apparently, in Australia, there is a joke that she is Naomi Waits- as in she waits at home while Nicole Kidman keeps getting the better roles and nominations. I don't think it is fair to compare them as they have different styles of acting and I probably wouldn't cast either of them for similar roles.

1. The movie I'm most excited about this fall/winter is PARALLEL MOTHERS obviously because the Almodovar-Cruz pairing that had never let me down.
2. I don't care about HOUSE OF GUCCI, especially because Scott is always a hit-or-miss for me and lately more of a miss and it looks like a Ryan Murphy series, but I hope it means good things for Lady Gaga's career, let's see if she can actually act or f AISB was just beginners luck.
